Ether Blades
Soon after the discovery of Arcane Mechanics, The Blemished immediately started experimenting uses for it in self defense. The fruits of their efforts came mainly with the discovery of the Ether Key, a small inscription that can be turned on or off that allows the flow of Ether into the world. This coupled with an Ether Spark, which reacts with the Ether to create raw magic energy, allowed for energy spikes that erupted violently. The final break through was the creation of an Ether Lens. An Ether Lens can channel Ether into desirable shapes or functions, which allows for more precise usage of Ether Energy. The Ether Lens on each blade is custom tailored to the individual and allows for distinct individuality for changing things like color. This coupled together with a button to open and close the Ether Key's port allowed for quick and easily transportable weapons that every member of the militia and civilians were allowed to use and carry.
Manufacturing process
First, the titanium ingots are melted into a deep cast about 4 inches deep, with a diameter of around 1 inch at the top. Using a Arcane Mechanics kit, one would inscribe an Ether Key onto the bottom of the well for channeling magic energy. Then, a wooden hilt would be fashioned around the well with a size of about one-third of an inch surrounding the well. Using an Arcane Mechanics Kit, a button was fashioned and connected to the Ether Key to turn it on and off. Also, an Ether Spark was added to the button mechanism, as to ignite the Ether and allow energy to flow. The wood hilt is then reshaped slightly for a wooden button to be placed on top of the button previously placed as to keep consistency. Then, a meticulously inscribed Ether Lens was placed in the middle of the blade to cover the titanium well, to produce the blade desired. Note that the longer the blade the less powerful the blade was at range. The optimal blade length was 20-24" as it produced the longest blade while also keeping maximum energy strength. With the lens placed and with more wood working on the hilt, the Ether Blade was complete and ready for combat at the press of a button.
