Sword & Swan

Don't let the name deceive you, Sword & Swan is a charming cafe located on the eastern side of the City of Mourn, and the locals consider it a hidden gem, not only in the City but in all of Meta. The cafe gets its name from a historical reference, to which the owner loves to talk about, as a sword and swan are the two main symbols to a deity from ancient mythology. The owner, a delightful person named Annigan, is nothing short of mystical and ethereal, they opened the cafe shortly after moving back home from school in Union when they noticed a huge problem surrounding homelessness and poverty, especially on the east side. So Annigan would take a look at their old family house, and with some savings, began renovations to transform the building into one fit for a cafe. Sword & Swan serves all of the classic cafe menu items, along with live music, and if that's not your thing you can head to the upstairs loft and enjoy a book or magazine from the library selection of donations. No matter the reason, no matter the weather nor the time, Sword & Swan is open to everyone, the atmosphere is quiet and the people are wonderful, it is my personal opinion when I say you NEED to stop by and give a helping hand should you find yourself in the city.

The Menu

Sword and Swan offer a wide variety of foods, snacks, and deserts with traditional Mourn dishes as well as dishes from around the world. Many of the traditional Mourn dishes, especially those fit for a cafe, involve honey, lavender, lemons, and a variety of other fruits as they are easy to grow in Mourn's climate.

Purpose / Function

Annigan, upon the disbandment of Volur, decided they wanted to do something on the easier side of life, a nice way to give back to her community without too much attention. When they found out that many members of the community would often go hungry to feed others, this is what inspired Anni to open a cafe out of their old house and with the extra money earned from Volur. The Cafe is a central hub to which patrons can be introduced to people in need, charity organizations, events, and lists of info with ways they could help out, not only in the City but also in communities with high poverty rates all across Meta. There is also a special menu listing where, should you purchase it, would reserve a second helping of whatever the patron purchases, for someone in need to redeem at a later time.

Architecture

The structure was a two-story wooden house in a three-part shape with a courtyard in the center, and after Annigan reclaimed it they updated it to a modern style building, using mainly cherry wood and a nice navy blue color scheme. The second story was transformed in a loft, with book-shelves built into the walls, benches that can double as cots, and an overhanging balcony with outdoor seating and hanging gardens. The attic of the building is Annigan's personal bedroom, which also doubles as a temporary guest room should a close friend stop it for a rest or to hide. The first floor boasts a courtyard, directly under the hanging gardens from the second floor, which provides natural shade and protection from precipitation, which could also double as a dance floor when live music gigs were played from the surrounding deck.

Normally I would have an inspiration pin board for buildings like this but I'm busy working on the designs of the four mysterious figures from the first chapter of Flower Girls found at Chapter One: Aconite, rest assured that once I finish those designs I'll whip up a quick board for S&S with architecture inspiration and menu items (recipes included)!
