Dread Bear (Constellation)

The Dread Bear

The Dread Bear is a lesser-known deity, one not apart of Velo's Pantheon, and with no relation to any members of it. Because of this few people have heard of it, and even less know what it represents or who worships it. The Lux family is one of the more prominent followers, with a bust of the Dread Bear on the family's official crest, it is hard to ignore their ties. A symbol of loyalty, not only to the deity but only to oneself and one's close ones; the Dread Bear serves a huge impact on those who follow it.

The Constellation

Discovered in 2486 NW by what stories describe as a 'wandering spiritualist', the discoverer had an apparent epiphany. Truly believing the stars, bearing a striking resemblance to what is considered a mythical creature even today, as a god calling out to him. It was a miracle that the constellation was discovered at all, given the difficult visibility in most of the world. And for this reason, when he attempted to share his findings, most called him a liar and turned their backs on all he had to say.   Primarily celebrated in the Northern Meta, the constellation named after the figure is hardly visible with equipment or magic on a good night. However, in the southern portion of the world it is ever so slightly visible to the naked eye, should one be viewing on a clear night just after a storm, and in high elevation. The hard accessibility to the constellation is part of what contributed to the unpopularity of the deity and its message.   Every few decades once the perfect conditions are met and fate allows it, the Constellation shines brightly in the dead of night for a few mere hours. This is considered a golden time of opportunity, power, and goodwill for the followers of the Dread Bear. Because of this a good portion of followers, even if they leave the belief, develop a deep fascination and interest in astronomy.
