"We did not even suspect the interest of a third party over the skirmish. So when we saw a massive metallic shape descend from the skyline and start tearing into our enmeys we began to cheer. It looked to us as if our commanders had sent in some secret weapon or ally to save the day. But it soon became all too clear that this was no friend to us when it turned around to lash at out at our lines without discrimination." Steel Dragons are perhaps the strongest of draconic kind that you could encounter outside of myth and legend. There near-impenetrable hide and martial prowess make them a force of reckoning upon even the mightiest of foes. By by the gods do they know it. They will sometimes sit amongst a writhing battle, just to see if anything can hit them. Nothing brings a steel dragon more glee than open combat. There favourite thing in all the world is to make a mess of a warzone, considering themselves a third army reddy to test their might against the enemy.
Where other dragons may hoard gold and silver, Steel dragons covert all things military. Weapons, armour, cannons, even sometimes live soldiers are added to their hoards. They consider war a game and fight with no anger or malice unless they are hurt with any significance. After the fight is over they will act magnanimous, whether they have won or lost. It is not unkown for them to re-enact battles with soldiers, dead or alive, fixed to bases against other of their kind.
The main comparison that can be made to a Steel Dragon in relation to their kin would be that if a normal dragon is a commoner or noble, then the Steel drago is a trained knight or solider. They train vigorously in both mind and body for warfare. Keeping up to date on the latest inventions and manoeuvres with keen interest. They may keep huge jernoal and librys on the strengths and weaknesses of folk and monster, so that when the time comes that they may face them that they know how best to strike them down. Unique amongst dragons the steel dragon will actively seek out and make armour and weapons for itself should it find materials stronger than its own claws and scales.
The most terrifying aspect of these creatures though maybe it's capacity to spew forth any elemental energy from its maw. Leaving no creature safe from damage lest it somehow be imune to it all.
