Plains of Harrack Unarth

A Shattered Plains; Wind-Scarred Crags

To the south of the Riverlands are the misty badlands known as both the Plains of Harrack Unarth - or the Plains of the Greying Lands. Treasure hunters and explorers find the Plains of Harrack Unarth covered with burial mounds dating back to ancient times when primitive humans lived and hunted here. The hill clans are gone, but their spirits live on, guarded and shepherded by the undead creatures known - for good reason - as hounds of ill omen. It also acts as the entrey way to the Savage Coast.

Characterized by rolling black hills, tall gray grass, and tangled scrub, scoured by harsh winds and summer brush fires. There is little shelter to be found in this unforgiving land. An unstable region with a deep connection to the Otherside – the world of spirits, an animalistic reflection of the material plane. It is said the Tribals of Harrack Unarth are knowledgeable about these unnatural threats, but few city-dwellers trust the untamed people of the plains – and vice versa.

Sometime during the Godswar, the plain was sundered in two – separating it into the High Harrack Unarth and Eastern Harrack Unarth. Between the two is a truly massive gorge. The closer one gets to this gorge, the more one realizes how unnatural the terrain gets; From a forest made of crystal tree-like formations, to the acres of land that seem to be nothing more than viscera, pus, and rot. The Tribals of Harrack Unarth believe that at the very heart of thise gorge is buried an evil god lost in the Godswar. Little do they know how close to the truth they are. As gods can take many forms to the feeble minds of mortals.

Geography

High Harrack Unarth

Scaffolding the western ridges of the Dragondown Coast, the High Harrack Unarth is known for the rise like hagged horned towards the sky. The further north one goes, they soon reach a pleateu of immense proportions and black stone which stretches across the western terminus until it greats the northern rivers. A massive divide known as The Teeth of Lormoch; On the winter days when the white snow covered faces of the peaks met the iron-gray of the sunless winter sky, it appeared as though the High Harrack Unarth were holding up sky. To others, it simply marked the end of the world as they saw it.

Eastern Harrack Unarth

The southern Greying Lands is one of muddy marshes, twisted canyons, branching caverns, and stony peals. It is mainly covered by stone with large strips of calcite and exposed ores. Some places of the Eastern Harrack Unarth are filled with grove of blackened, leafless trees perpetually smolders with the dull glow of arcane embers. These copse is choked by a cloud of ash and cinders, which constantly rain on the cremated forest floor. While it's eastern reaches are one of bamboo forests and clamorous ridges

Hak Karlum, the Faceted Plain

A long, wide valley carved long ago by the fall of a massive star, hundreds of years ago. The remains carved a massive gash in a dark and wild place between points of civilization. Once a land of painted waterfalls and bamboo forests has changed into choking rivers, collapsing roads, and altering the landscape for hundreds of leagues. Few dare the lands beyond the forboding redstone outcroppings; for it is seething region is devoid of life, and seemingly crumbling away into nothingness.

Fauna & Flora

Baloth, Aurochs, Relic Sloths, in addition to constrictor snakes, giant scorpions, sable antelopes, chimeric foxes, and chimeric baboons that inhabit the more hospitable locations of the Greying Lands. Tough-Skinned Fruit grows around the plains, being quite difficult to cultivate. Banana yuccas, Prickly Pears, and agave are commonly gathered and traded.

Known Tribes of the Greying Lands:

People of the Karan Dar:

After the Godswar and the collapse of the Nerathilord, commerce and agriculture was all but obliterated in Dragondown Coast, and many faced starvation. The Shaman, Mascara, rallied many of the surviving groups, both imperials and barbarians, and made them swear the oath of the Karan Dar, the holy tree of a druidic faith, to keep the peace.
After years of wandering, Mascara and his people encountered a group of Halfling Bravos fighting the Men of the Wild. They aided the paladins, and the two people became allies. For their aid, the paladins led Delvanus and his followers to the empty Plains of Hegramoth, where they settled and began calling themselves the People of the Karan Dar. Since then, they have prospered, and with the aid of the River Folk, have been able to hold the plains against the humanoids to the south.

Grey Company:

From the dust of the fallen Nerathilord, a bleached-out train of grim, armored humans emerges from the Plains of Harrack Unarth like a silhouette in the fog. On the march, Gray Company soldiers intend to reclaim and restore the sundered thrones and monster-infested ruins of their forefathers.
By collecting half-remembered verses of ancient epics, crumbling tomes, and fragile artifacts, the Gray Company preserves tiny shards of the Nerathilord’s greatness. The company is fanatical about regaining its inheritance and hunts any creature known to have plundered Nerathan relics.

Skarite Long Helmsmen

The Skarites are known for their distinctive long helms and horsehair plumes. After several crushing defeats since the barbarian invasion at the end of the Godswar, they have been left scattered and defeated. Deadly fights often break out among the warriors due to the small population of women and the stresses of their peoples’ desperate situation.
