Ulgrotha; the Homelands

Long ago, the cruel and prosperous Nerathi Imperium crushed the nations of Ulgrotha. With its military might and its command of eldritch machines and ancient sorceries, it slew the dragons who held up the pillars of the world and cast then down, proclaiming itself an eternal empire.   It spread itself from sea to sea, altered the land itself with great projects, raise mighty cities of iron and stone, and bent the elder magics to its will, setting its sights on the seat of the makers themselves. The legacy of the Nerathilords had swollen with power that drove them far beyond the concerns of petty men and made them blind. Because the Nerathilord’s Legions were like ants. Like ants, they dug deep. Like ants, they built high. And like ants, they had been squashed   When it finally came, it was as rapid as it was inevitable. The Godswar – where our Nerathilords, now Gods, turned against the women and men who worshipped them. Lands rose and fell. The sky rained fire, ash, and worse things. The seas rose and then retreated. The sheer magnitude of the energies unleashed in the ensuing battles by gods and mortals alike was enough to fray the boundaries holding back the elemental chaos, spilling unbridled destruction into the world. So great was this war, it even caused the very heavens to crash into the earth.   A century has passed since the Godswar ended. The land has been changed and devastated by magical pollution and the fallout of weapons used in the age-old war. Dotted with the floating and fallen ruins of the Nerathilord’s domain. Regions now where the weather doesn’t make sense, a fact that shows just how deeply scarred the world truly is.   While such a situation offers nothing but dark times for many common folks, it offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for individuals determined to seize the moment and follow it to riches, power, glory, and, most likely, an untimely death.
