Nrdgeist - The Sprite Folk

Few have encountered an Archfey, for they are elusive beings who only deal in Fair Gold. But those who do, realize that these masked beings aren't just physically immense; they're spiritually immense as well. The Nrdgeist once acted like they were the fingers of the Archfey Oversoul; strands of these great beings that can slip into the world without being seen. Some were knowledge gatherers, others assassins, and others still simple scoundrels - trading memories for Fair Gold. Stealing items, technology, books, and possibly even people, they have gathered a vast amount of knowledge.

The Nrdgeist were drawn to inherently magical places - where the barrier between the Material World and the Wraith World are thin. And perhaps, that is why they were seperated. A knowledge gathering expedition was severed several Cycles ago when their leader - Maglubiyet - turned against the others, stealing all the collected Fair Gold for himself. Yet doing so, it severed this expedition from the Archfey they served - forever weakening them as the Nrdgeist were forced to adapt to the Material World. Maglubiyet, however, was not content with simplely being free of the Oversoul - but instead wished to become an Archfey himself. Ruthlessly, he hunted down the survivors for several Cycles - before being caught in a greater war.
An event the Sprite-Folk remember as the Maglubiyet Culling.

To this day they haven't forgotten their time as prey, and many Nrdgeist cultures revolves around both celebrating their freedom, idols of the Archfey they once were apart of, and making almost paranoid efforts to protect themselves. Taking the name Gnohmes, they chose to build elaborately hidden bunker-villages, supplementing artful mundane camouflage with powerful illusions and other magical mind effects. These arcane mazes are managed by powerful by Fey Beguilers and Naturalist Wizards, the Ereg Gnohmes, which many seek to continue their interpretation of the Great Works. Such works have lead to wars between bunker-villages.

On the other hand, many Gobline tribes decided to never become prey again. They decided to pursue their own destinies, escaping the plots of both archfey and gods. Living largely in extended cave burrows, planting and gathering crops, fishing in their canoes, or making war on rival tribes. Since they live communally in their burrows, taking care of each other as family, when you kill one Gobline, their entire communilty will mourn them for a lifetime. And many will seek revenge.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Gnohmes and Goblines are on some levels, very much the same. They are are quite small, only being around 3 ft. high, on average. Their small stature would be well suited to their living in forested regions - being able to navigate quickly in thickly treed areas, or being able to hide easily amongst the flora of the land. Underneath the layer of hair is two-toned skin. This can be seen mostly in the face of the Gnohme or Gobline, which is typically less hair than the rest of the body. Having lived away from their remorseless ancestry, Gnohmes are more sedentary than Goblines. Spending much of their time argely upon the surface, planting and gathering crops, fishing in their canoes, or making war on rival tribe - while their rulers continue their construction the Great Works. Red hats are often a sign you are dealing with a Gnohmes.

Often still residing within natural forested region in tribal societies, the Gobline are one of the most discriminated-against race in Ulgrotha. Since the Gobline often employs guerrilla-based tactics against intruders, this has exasperated this bigotry, extending to their Gnomish cousins. They lack many of the morals that other racial tribes have not because they are inheritently violence, but because their enviorment and need for survivor allows them to be this way. Many Goblines end up working with other racial tribes with generations of trauma weighting heavy on them. Others do it for their own taste of Fair Gold. Physiologically, they are far more hairy than Gnohme, but otherwise they are quite similar.

The Sprite-Folk do not get along in the slighested - and may the ancestors help you, should your mistake a Gnome for a Goblin. After the Maglubiyet Culling, many Spite Folk have forgotten the fey boon with them to worlds across the Material Plane, and even remember the fey realm they inhabited. The Coblynau Gnomes seek to change that - as many are considered the Leader Class of the Gnomes, seeking to decypher the Great Works and return the Gnomes into a realm all their own.
