Carric Naïlo

Stray of Anland: Carric Lurelin von Lavallan Ilyndrathyl de Thurruvyn Naïlo (a.k.a. "Carrot")

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Built for acrobatic skill, Carric is very lithe and slender, and, though incredibly musclebound, would often be described as being more sinewy. He often relies on his ability to make a nimble escape into the trees, and being too heavy would be incredibly detrimental to such a thing. Being light is also a key factor in his stealth capabilities, but, regardless, his thighs are what the humans would call "thiccque".

Body Features

Carric has dark, freckled skin with very few blemishes. Despite his years of archery, his hands are surprisingly lightly calloused. He has several tattoos of roses and moons along his back, arms, and sides, but they can all be easily hidden for the most part.

Facial Features

Like most elves, Carric's face can be described as androgynous. He has a slightly angular face, though most of his features are comparatively softer. Like the rest of his body, his face is dusted by freckles. A few beauty marks dot his face as well, though the most prominent one his beneath his left eye, center with the middle of his eye. Long, dark lashes frame his golden eyes. Though not obnoxiously so, his brows are naturally darker than the rest of his hair and are soft yet well defined. His nose would likely be described as being strong. Lips naturally turn into a soft frown, though the rest of his expression is often incredibly stoic. More often than not, his lips are tinted a nice shade of red. His ears are long and pointed, like all elves, and are pierced in several different spots. His face is framed by naturally wild and curly rose gold hair. In the center of his forehead rests a small moon-shaped lythari mark, which changes shape with the moon phases. It is only visible at night or in the dark, though his hair does naturally cover it.

Identifying Characteristics

His most identifying features would certainly be his strikingly gold eyes and the beauty mark beneath his left eye. Smells of night-blooming jasmine and light spices.

Physical quirks

Walks with a straight posture, hands often clasped either behind or in front depending on whether there is any weaponry or a cloak in the way. Naturally and preferably left-handed, though he has learned to use both hands to near equal skill. Rarely slouches and only does when tired or otherwise exhausted.

Apparel & Accessories

Typical to ranger fashion, Carric wears mostly earthy tones. Lower layers are comprised of typical themarian elven wear. Quiver on the right hip. Tall leather boots that reach near his knees. Leather bracer on his right arm to protect it from the bowstring. Weapon belts cover his torso, lined with throwing knives and the like. Atop it all is a knee-length green cloak, the collar lined by wolf fur, and the hood is the head of a wolf to cover his face. Around his neck rests two necklaces, one a choker with an upwards facing crescent moon, the other one is a long leather cord with a wolf fang secured into moonstone. Keeps a pocket-sized journal on him for notes and drawings while on journeys.

Personal history

Show spoiler
When Illynaes and Pyria Naïlo of the Ulrennor lythari were told that their son would be a powerful leader, they were overjoyed and prepared extensively for their unborn child's arrival. However, what they hadn't prepared for were twin sons. Unsure of which of the boys were meant for the destiny prophesied, Illynaes quickly went to seek the answer from the elders who had imparted the knowledge upon them in the first place. However, no answer was given as the elders were unsure themselves.

Illynaes tried to care for his sons equally, attempting to see which of the two had the most natural ability to lead. It became quickly apparent that in terms of social skill, Carric was nothing like his brother. Cedric was friendly, joyous, and all-around quite the social butterfly, and even despite his trouble-making habits, it became clearer and clearer to Illynaes which of the two would be best to lead the clan. Their father's favoritism became more obvious over the years, so much so that it would eventually ultimately be the thing that drove his other son away.

Carric lived a relatively easy life when he was young. He was taught the standard education available in Nylmthemar, history, arithmetic, language... Everything he would one day need should he become a leader. However, as he and Cedric grew, he certainly took notice of his father's preference for his brother. Despite this, though, he still managed a decent relationship with Illynaes. That all changed though when his mother passed under mysterious circumstances. Without her to bridge the gap between them as she always had before, Illynaes eventually forced his son away.

One night, under the guise of darkness, Carric escaped from their settlement. His brother stopped him as he exited the main gate, begging him not to go. Surely he could not be so selfish as to just leave his twin behind. Besides that, what would father think?

Without a second thought or even a glance back, Carric crossed through the gate, never to be seen by the Ulrennor lythari again. His brother immediately went to get their father, hoping that they could find and stop him in time. Illynaes refused, saying that if someone was so selfish to abandon their clan, they did not belong among them. Cedric went on his own, instead, though he never caught up to his brother. What he did find, however, was Carric's discarded pack, items strewn about, pools of blood, and one long trail leading towards the nearby kipine den.

Cedric would never learn the truth of his brother's fate until a near century later.

Of course, Carric had not died that day, instead he'd survived the scuffle by the skin of his teeth. As he licked his wounds in Anland Forest, he had a chance encounter with a small druid clan comprised of themarian elves. They offered to take him in, at least until he was fully healed. He ended up staying with this clan for the better of 70 years. While living among the Enahona druids, Carric's anger against his father, and pack, was finally soothed as he found a purpose that called to him. The druids opened his eyes to the outside worlds and revealed that the rest of Ufeanor was not as peaceful as his own home. Vowing to help everyone who he could, Carric set out on his own.

During an adventure in Ochil, Carric ended up adopting a small half-elf boy named Cypress. Upon returning to Nylmthemar after a decade long journey overseas to better provide a life for his son, he would eventually encounter his brother, who would later introduce him to the Night Pack faction, leading to many more journeys.

Employment

Carric often functions as a ranger for hire, or something similar. Other jobs he's taken over the years have involved tracking criminals, hunting dangerous beasts, and even simply helping a village gather enough supplies from the neighboring forest area. More often than not, he charges a small, simple fee, and he is more than willing to negotiate the price. The few times he will refuse a low payment is when the job is too dangerous or inconvenient, or if he knows the employer is extremely wealthy. Upon receiving a high payment, he will redistribute it among the less fortunate.

Morality & Philosophy

Carric believes that everyone should be equal and have enough freedom to be able to be and do whatever they please, so long as it is not morally dubious such as murder, thievery, etc. He also feels that no one should be above the law.
