Session 60 (29. 01. 2020)

Telum Veritas defeated the door mimics in a short but bloody battle. They put the orb away in Lia's bag of holding, and quickly discovered the real exit underneath the treasure chest. After some quick healing (and Penrose shoveling as much gold into his portal as he could), they were ready to move on.   They arrived in the final room, which circled a huge, open set of doors leading down. Below, they saw Djaro, contemplating a bunch of pedestals with magic items on them. While the others were having a hurried debate on how best to ambush him, Vincent decided to announce their presence. Djaro was unimpressed, but before he could do much, Lia unceremoniously banished him. Thus, the group had ample time to get into position, and captured him as soon as he showed up again.   Isadora didn't know how to react to meeting her "brother" again. Together with Lia, she tried to interrogate him, with little success. Djaro attempted to teleport away, which Lia counterspelled. Meanwhile, Vincent figured out how to operate the cuffs in ten minutes, then put them on him, blocking his magic. With Djaro thus neutralized, the group left Obediah to keep an eye on him, and focused on trying to figure out the puzzle of the pedestals. There was one with a box, one with a set of dice, one with a candle, one with an ankh-shaped amulet, and one with a brooch.   What followed was several miserable minutes of looking at everything, trying everything they could think of, having spells bounce off of the spherical barriers over the pedestals to hit their casters, all under Djaro's smug watchful eye. While Lia was in favour of knocking him out but was overruled, Vincent lost his patience with him at some point and blasted him with fire, threatening to kill him. When even this failed to get any sort of reaction whatsoever out of him, it became quite clear that they wouldn't get anywhere.   Soon enough after this, however, they reached a breakthrough. The center of the room contained something, hidden in plain sight. It sucked up the fake orb Lia had brought over. After some deliberation, Morgyn managed to dispel the effect, and the Enigmasphere dropped out of the air. The items were uncovered, but the tower around them began to shake. Moments later, every person, including Djaro, was teleported to the top of the tower, where they were confronted with a giant outside.   Named Urok, and huge even for a giant, he told them that they had passed the trials, and after eons, his watch was finally over. He grabbed the tower, and pulled it straight out of the ground; turns out it was actually a gigantic spear called Heartpiercer, last used in the war against the Sunderking. Urok agreed to take them to the border of the Fractured Spine (which he called his home). He did not like Djaro being held prisoner, and equated it to slavery. He let Penrose and Morgyn ride on his shoulder.   Isadora had a heart-to-heart with Djaro on the way, and got some precious information out of him. She also came to the conclusion that he wasn't beyond saving.   Urok deposited the group, except Djaro, on the edge of the Fractured Spine. He gave them the spear, which Isadora took, then left. They concluded with irritation that Djaro had been released, but having no other choice, they went looking for the raks instead, and found them safe and sound.
