Session 40 (19. 06. 2019)

Hearing a commotion from Nyx's room, the other members of Telum Veritas rushed there to find a naked and very much alive Carthigan. After confirming that he was no longer an undead, Morgyn left. The others celebrated, and sent for clothes. Nyx went after Morgyn, and had a heart to heart with him - he warned her about the consequences of such a wish, and that she had played with powers she couldn't understand.   On the following day, the group paid a visit to their acquaintance, Doctor Valerian. Her research into the Shadows' enhanced ablooneum was going well, and producing some impressive effects. She used a mouse to demonstrate - forced underwater and drowning, the animal adapted by producing gills and webs on its feet, but transformed back after a few minutes. According to the Doctor, the serum wasn't yet stable enough to be used on people, and it also had side effects - sensitivity to sound and light. After learning about Vincent's ablooneum affliction, she agreed to examine him further with Morgyn's help, and see if they can come up with a treatment in the coming weeks.   After departing from Valerian's place, Carthigan went clothes shopping but to his surprise, found Ebrill's shop gone. In the meantime, Vincent received a note from Damian and went to see him with Hadiah. Damian explained that he'd had a fruitful meeting with Alexa Sinclair, who'd had a change of heart regarding the Regency's northern expansion following her encounter with the Crimson Edge. They had reached an agreement, and would be putting Newmont on trial posthumously.   The trial was in a few more days. Telum Veritas were warned that they would be called upon as witnesses to what happened in the Spire, and had to prepare - they would be under the effects of the zone of truth spell, but they could still avoid mentioning things that were too incriminating to themselves. The prosecutor would be briefed ahead of time as well.   On the day of the trial, they went to the courthouse in the morning and met the prosecutor. Kim and Carthigan were called upon as witnesses. Kim was asked about her relationship with her father, the late Kantor Brade, and had to admit that they were the ones who'd actually released the lightning beast that destroyed the Spire. Carthigan was asked further questions regarding his own history with Newmont and whether he thought Newmont would be capable of building the portal, capturing the beast, and managing the whole operation without outside help. Finally, to everyone's astonishment, one more person was called to the stand, who they'd all thought was dead: Orana Solaris, Regency officer and one of the people who'd accompanied Newmont to the Wildlands. Her testimony aimed to exonerate the old Regency government: Newmont would be the official scapegoat and all the others who'd been responsible - Minister Sinclair included - would escape punishment.   Finally, the judge announced the verdict. Alistair Newmont was found guilty as the one solely responsible for the events that had led to the destruction of the Spire. Thus, after their harrowing journey north and the complications afterwards, Telum Veritas were finally, officially found innocent. The nightmare was over.
