Session 37 (29. 05. 2019)

Having reconvened, Telum Veritas made the decision to break into Newmont's house that same night. Aella and Nyx kept watch while the rest of the team went into the yard. They found an empty dog kennel, and the house itself appeared to be abandoned as well, just as they'd heard. Multiple doors led in, but all of them were locked. Carthigan floated in through the wall, but couldn't open the front door from the inside. Hadiah tried to pick the lock, but her thieves' tools broke and jammed the lock. Eventually, she climbed up to an upper floor window and opened that, making her way inside. She found that one of the doors were simply latched and easy enough to open from the inside.
With a way into the building, they began searching for clues. Carthigan examined the kitchen, Morgyn looked through the bookshelves. Vince and Hadiah went through the upper floor, discovering a master bedroom with a cleaned-out desk, and a friendly spider in the rafters who let her know that about two weeks before, a lot of people came to search through the house. The group were puzzled by this information - that was a couple of days after they had captured Newmont. Had he been in communication with someone here in the Regency all along?
Noticing a huge painting of Newmont with his beloved chihuahua Reginald in the living room, they decided to investigate the doghouse. Carthigan found that the ground had been disturbed behind it, and got excited. It turned out to be a buried bone.
As they were examining the painting further, Kim pointed out a tiny switch to its side; clicking it revealed a safe. With his enhanced hearing, Vincent was able to open it by listening to the clicks of the mechanism. Inside, a number of gems, a ring, some sort of potion, and a puch full of money were revealed. Everything, save for the money, turned out to be magical.
While Kim and Carthigan went to investigate a moose head trophy on the upper floor, Ragnis decided to try and detect magical effects throughout the house. The decorative armors on the ground floor immediately pinged as magical, and so did the moose head - with divination magic. Someone was watching, and they had all walked around in plain view.
They hurriedly covered it with a blanket, then moved on. In the master bedroom, a rug on the floor turned out to be magical. Meanwhile, Vince went to examine the fireplace, and found the remains of burned papers inside. He began to cast a spell to move the remains back in time to when they were whole.
Upstairs, Ragnis tried to identify the rug and discovered that it was just a regular nonmagical object. He rolled it up, revealing a compartment beneath. He threw it open, and all hell broke loose.
Downstairs, the armors came to life. Hadiah moved to intercept two of them, while Morgyn retreated to Vincent's side, who was still working his spell. Two others began moving upstairs, where the rug came to life and tried to wrap itself around Ragnis. Carthigan went to draw the armors away.
One against two, Hadiah wasn't faring well. Vincent finally had to drop his spell to banish one armor. Upstairs, the rug gave up on Ragnis and moved to try and suffocate Kim instead. As the downstairs group finally gained the upper hand and destroyed the armors, the rug dragged Kim out the window. She tore it apart mid-flight, landing on the lawn outside. In the building, Ragnis and Carthigan fought the remaining armors.
Just as Hadiah arrived to help, a message came from Aella and Nyx through the sending stone. Guards were coming, and they had to get out, quickly. The armors were destroyed, and the group scattered. Having flown up from the yard back through the window, Kim quickly took out the contents of the troublesome compartment - more magic items and some promising papers - while Hadiah sprinted out towards the back. Vincent was quick to follow, climbing the wall that surrounded the yard then turning back to help Morgyn over as well. Ragnis burst through a window and jumped the fence. Kim simply flew off, with Carthigan hitching a ride. Thus, Telum Veritas successfully escaped with their haul into the night.
