Session 35 (15. 05. 2019)

Following their victory at Sshilcass, Telum Veritas found themselves at an impasse. Forxar refused to answer Viktor's call to explain how he was supposed to destroy the Nightstone, and Leaf's earlier vision about a sacrifice didn't really help. Lia wanted to take this chance and go to the plane of air, but with having to deliver Newmont to Highspire as well as find some way to deal with the Nightstone, the rest of the group couldn't follow. In the end, after a tearful goodbye, she left regardless.   The others took their time to study and disassemble the portal, and tried to interrogate Newmont, to no avail. Eventually, they packed up and began to move towards the location the Emissary had given them, to fulfill their end of the deal with the Mother and let her talk to Kim. With that detour, they had to resign themselves to a several-week long journey back to the Regency.   Along the way, Vincent made an extraordinary discovery: the Nightstone suppressed the nightmares that had been torturing him for his entire life. Driven by his curiosity, he finally surrendered to the stone's temptation and used it. He managed to control it, and hid it with a powerful spell to make sure the Mother couldn't get her hands on it. He did not tell the others about this.   A trek that stretched for over two weeks took them to a part of the Wildlands that was covered in faintly luminescent spiderwebs. Eventually, they came to an place where the path was completely blocked by webbing. Here, they met Hadiah, the Mother's daughter, who had been sent to greet them.   Hadiah led them through a maze of trees and webs until eventually, they came to a small hut. Mama Nanzi waited inside, in the form of a little old lady. She invited them for tea and conversation. First, about Kim and the prophecy that she would kill Dal Zarma: Nanzi warned her that prophecies mean possibilities, not certainties. For instance, were she to face the Empress now, she would die. She'd need to train and become stronger in order to fulfill the prophecy. Nanzi used a drop of her blood to see her future, but claimed that Kim wasn't ready to see the result yet. She eventually agreed to give her a small package to open when she was well away from Newmont.   When that was done, the discussion turned to the Nightstone. Vincent revealed that he had already used it, much to the dismay of the others. He wished to preserve it rather than sacrifice someone to destroy it. As Nanzi revealed, the death of a Valdian was needed to strip the stone of its defenses, and Kim was much too valuable because of the Dal Zarma prophecy. However, as it turned out, they had a second Valdian in their ranks: Gunter.   Gunter revealed his true identity as Oscar Underbrook, and entrusted Vincent with his father's life's work: the evidence he'd gathered about the corruption within the Regency. Ready to finally reunite with his family, he then willingly went to die on a pyre to destroy the stone. As Telum Veritas mourned their fallen member, Nanzi brought in a third party to finish the deed: a captured azer by the name of Ragnis, who shattered the defenseless Nightstone with his hammer.   Afterwards, Nanzi invited the party to a feast, but they weren't in the mood to celebrate. Still, to reward them for dealing with the Nightstone, she offered to send them wherever they wished to go. She offered a new deal as well: take Hadiah with them to act as her representative and establish diplomatic relations with the Regency, and in exchange, they would receive an incredibly rare magical compass that could pinpoint its target on any plane and, rumors said, even in time. They agreed.   And at this point, Telum Veritas split up. With his mission finished, Viktor wanted to return to his forge in Pickendale. Carthigan and Kim wanted to visit Nyx and Morgyn. Vincent wanted to be back in Highspire as soon as possible so he could deliver Newmont. At Carthigan's request, Aella agreed to accompany them. So, Carth, Kim and Viktor were sent to the Mittaka, while Vincent, Aella, Newmont, Hadiah and Ragnis were sent to Highspire.
