Mirgaun Trench (meer-gawn)

Deep below the ocean's surface...

Off the western coast of the Divide in the Western Gulf Ocean, less than a mile from shore, the ocean floor drops off precipitously for almost four miles. This rift, known as the Mirgaun Trench, runs across the seafloor for approximately 1200 winding miles, and houses an almost alien ecosystem. It is most famous for being the original home of yikt, the woody kelp that sees broad use in naiadeem crafts and cuisine; however, there is a wealth of biodiversity unlike anywhere else on Twinsun hiding in its inky black depths.

Another Planet Beneath the Waves

The combined weight of the ocean combined with the closeness to the plane's core results in an abundance of charged earth and water essentia coming into uncommon contact with one another. This unusual thaumophysical phenomenon has resulted in rare and interesting species with properties unseen elsewhere. The extreme environment makes expeditions difficult and dangerous, but jaskin and merfolk expeditionary teams have discovered a number of interesting specimens worth documenting:

• The aforementioned Yikt plant
• The Vilpras Fish, a predator that hunts with flashes of light
• The Leniwan Eel, a quasi-physical leviathan with a large eye
• The Omnicrab, a ridiculous ten-sided crab
• The Auguami, a massive nautiloid sea monster
