Condensed Food Packet

Condensed food packets were engineered by humans around the time that long distance space travel became the primary concern of the space programs around the world . They allow for a full sized meal to be condensed into a 1 inch by 1 inch cube that can later be returned to its normal size using a microwave device. Condensed food packets are much easier to store, allowing ships to carry many times more food than they would have otherwise been able to. Typically each food packet contains ⅓ of the daily value of what a person needs in their typical diet, ensuring that no matter what they choose to eat for the day, they will receive complete nutrition. Food packets have been created with vegetarian and vegan needs in mind, though they are produced much less than normal packets. Each packet ensures that the user will have a proper amount of protein in their diet. There are many different meal options for these including breakfast specific foods, foods from other cultures, and children’s sized meals. There are also a few snack sized meals for those who aren’t feeling as hungry or who need some extra calories. The TSS Geisel was stocked with enough food packets for its whole crew to last around a year and 3 months with everyone eating 3 a day. The idea was that they would slowly be replaced by food from the ship’s farm and would run out after the ship is able to produce the majority of its own food. Food packet storage is currently running low, with enough remaining for each person to have one meal a day for about a month or two.
