Cockpit

Opposite the Farm, the ship contains a cockpit. This room contains a large cluster of interfaces where commanders lead pilots in navigating the TSS Geisel. These consoles line the perimeter of the room and allow for individual teams of navigators to gather data from space around them in all directions. With the discovery of Quasar Wave Propagation (QWP), the ship’s radar is able to detect planets from nearly a light decade away while depending on traditional radio wave EMR radar to detect nearby objects.   The next ring has consoles that control the ship’s locomotion. These teams adjust the TSS Geisel’s solar sails and induction thrusters to steer the ship on course towards its destination. For the most part, this involves plugging in numbers about the current conditions of space around them and their destination, however, some of the more experienced pilots have more intuition than the computers do and often bypass the autopilot.   The center of the room contains an elevated platform where the Captain and his commanders oversee the whole operation. The process is rather distributed in that pilots communicate to their commander what information they have. The commander relays important information to the Captain. The Captain issues orders to the commanders and the commanders delegate the appropriate actions to the pilots. This process is rather straightforward, but takes practice and discipline for everything to run smoothly. The flight crew had to undergo years to training before they were allowed to operate the real thing. However, the next generation of pilots will need to be trained live.
