The Brothers of the Third

Structure

The Brothers of the Third were overseen by the High Chaplain who had three lieutenants called, simply, Chaplains. Below each Chaplain was a regiment of knights. This simple hierarchy was sufficient for the Brothers of the Third as they were an order of only about 100 men at its largest. The Brothers fought along less holy troops of the general Arnoran army when they required reinforcements.

Culture

The Brothers were seen by the Arnoran public as holy knights of great reverence and incredible purpose. The enemies of Arnora thought differently as the sharp end of a sword will often do. Outside of Arnora the Brothers of the Third were thought of as brutal destroyers of peace, killing or enslaving people for no reason but to impose their narrow view of religion on anyone they saw. The Brothers thought of themselves as burdened by the powerful will of Eyhrn and they were expected to flagellate often and oddly, for a fertility god, the Brothers were also abstinent while in service. Since parenthood was so important to them, it was considered immoral for active military to have children because of the likelihood they would not raise their young though this was the first thing soldiers did once retired.

Public Agenda

The Brothers of the Third were an extremely pious order who dedicated themselves specifically to the third tenet of Eyhrn 'Grow my love to envelope the world.' The Brothers' interpretation of this tenet was one of conquest, evangelizing, and unification of the ethnic progenitus of Eyhrn. This led the Brothers of the Third to wage war on any human societies who had strayed from Eyhrn, either in faith or in blood. The most dire threats in the eyes of these holy knights was humans worshipping another god or having children with someone of another ethnicity.

History

The Brothers of the Third were one of three monastic orders created by the grand church of Arnora. Each order focused on interpreting, embodying, and advancing a single of Eyhrn's three tenets. The other orders were The Sisters of the First, an organization who oversaw medicine and midwifery in Arnora and lastly the Children of the Second, an organization who trained and commissioned artists and artisans to create great monuments to Eyhrn.

Disbandment

The Brothers of the Third were all but wiped out in what looked to be a very simple and insignificant conquest before it began. The Brothers raided a small port town in Olnor called Winsaw. The town was home to many elves, humans, and mixes of the two. The accounts of the battle are muddy but what seemed to be the order's undoing was a return of ships during the battle. The Brothers of the Third had no navy and found themselves surrounded as the village people blocked off the roads. Some Brothers escaped but nearly all were slew by archers on boats who they had no hope of touching. The battle is known as the Slaughter at Winsaw and many credit it as one of the first signs of the fall of Arnora.
