Stom O'Gorel

Defences

The port are is overlooked by 4 watchtowers. These towers are manned day and night and while useful in battle they mainly serve as lookouts to warn a more sizeable defence for the town. Stom O'Gorel also employs a small, independent fleet of ships as a navy.

Industry & Trade

Stom O'Gorel is a town of uncouth pleasures. The town is known as the problem child of Stabherland for good reason. Drugs, prostitution, gambling, and other vices are the leading draw of the town with folks sailing out to indulge in the town's pleasures, unavailable at home.

Infrastructure

Nearly the entirety of Stom O'Gorel's downtown area is elevated on wooden walkways and platforms except for the concrete port. The port itself is walled with bricks and set with stone steps to the admittedly  decaying docks themselves.  Stom O'Gorel is also known for its gas street lamps that dot the city, illuminating its nightlife. A surprising amount of buildings in Stom O'Gorel have electricity from the town's watermill which churns quickly from the waterfall's rush.

Guilds and Factions

The town of Stom O'Gorel is inseparably intertwined with the pirate gang known as the Kreudraw Nozh (Wandering Knives). Some would have you believe the Kreudraw Nozh are long disbanded, but their influence is still felt in the town as no major members were ever arrested. The most popular bar in town, the Horsefly, is built in the old Kreudraw Nozh flagship of the same name. This spot is where business, illicit and otherwise, is done in the town. It'd be hard to find a resident who hasn't visited the grounded ship's belly in the past week. The Horsefly remains under the ownership of its former captain, Zarthala Kuka. With this important institution under control of Kreudraw Nozh's alumni, Stom O'Gorel remains in large part under the influence of the gang's will.

History

Stom O'Gorel began as the hideout of the Kreudraw Nozh and eventually became a haven for many agreeable bands of outlaws who looked to escape the increasingly strict law of Stabherland. Of course this came to an end in 1430 when Stom O'Gorel joined Stabherland, renaming itself from the regrettable name; Cutthroat Port. When Stabherland cracked down on the rampant gang violence following the Noe Bac Accords, many outlaws fled to Cutthroat Port, fearing the daily hangings of gang members. A document not dissimilar to the Noe Bac Accords had to be written in Cutthroat Port to quell rivalries of the new arrivals. With so many thieves and killers on the island, things were of course chaotic for a time, but in the years since joining the state of Stabherland, many of the surviving outlaws from Cutthroat Port have grown old and settled quietly in Stom O'Gorel. Stom O'Gorel is still noticeably different from mainland Stabherland and the taboos of mainlanders are commonplace on the small island.

Geography

Stom O'Gorel's name translates roughly to 'Tree on the Water' because of its jungle island landscape. The town itself is built on the swampy shore in the island's northern inlet. The rest of the island is mostly untouched jungle. Just out the inlet, the shore of mainland Stabherland's Gorskog woods. On a fast ship, one could reach the port of Noe Bac in under an hour.
