Laharo Quill
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The size and strength of the laharo feather, despite its lightness, make for the pens of choice amongst many scribes and notaries. The feathers can of course be sharpened as fine as you wish but the thick line unique to laharo quills has become trendy and desired with some people doubling their lines to give appearance of a laharo quill.
The legitimacy of laharo feathers has come into question with the prevalence of knock offs and trickery. Some have tried to pass condor or large pelican feathers off, even going as far as to paint speckles on them. It is now common practice that a laharo quill be sold with an accompanying certificate of authenticity from a noted specialist. These certificates are of course also forged but there is only so much one can do about these sorts of things.
Significance
Laharo quills have become a status symbol in Tseol. The absurd size is both a benefit to the product's longevity and durability as well as an unavoidable to statement of its presence.
Laharo feathers are a symbol of wealth and of dedication to penmanship. You will find them in the courts of kings, the offices of governors, the hand of an author autographing their work, or perhaps the correspondence hobbyist who has saved up for the luxury experience.

Rarity
The most sought after laharo feathers are the largest ones. These can only be harvested from the largest and most dangerous animals, making their acquisition dangerous and their supply scarce. As with all quills, the strongest are plucked from living animals in growth; a difficult task with such a beast. All of this combined with their dwindling numbers and their being native only to Waihohn make them rare everywhere, but especially in Coulesia.
