Driwan

Basic Information

Anatomy

Driwans are very similar to the camels found in parts of Coulesia but have evolved to be larger and longer, making room along their back for their famous three humps. They walk on four legs, notably more muscular than a camel, and they bare cloven hoofs. Driwan fur is extremely fine and is generally lightest on their stomachs and legs while their back is a tad darker and their snout and tail are darkest. Driwan tails are bushier than that of camel and quite a bit longer, like that of a fox.

Ecology and Habitats

Driwans are native only to Waihohn and live on both sides of the Stanley canal. Since the migration of people to Wiahohn, driwans have been domesticated by those travelling in more arid parts. They are easy to keep happy as they drink so little and eat mostly grass. Though there are still many wild driwans in the deserts of Boscom and New Vandelle, you will mostly commonly see them as steeds of merchants who go between Harden and Larenay or the slavers of Asios.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Driwans eat mostly grass but have known to enjoy the flowers of lenal plants. The three humps on their backs allow them to store vast amounts of water which can be rare in their habitat. They have a very slow metabolism and are resilient creatures in scarcity despite their size.

Additional Information

Domestication

The two natural "seats" between their three humps, how little they eat and drink, and their natural ability to travel in sandy terrain have made driwans the stted of choice for many people in Waihohn's drier regions.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Driwans have incredible vision that is specialized to their desert home.  Driwans possess glands around their eyes which can produce a viscous coating, colloquially known as sap,  which helps keep their eyes safe from sand and other irritants. They are able to vary the amount of the substance to account for sand storms or low light, in which they reduce the amount to take in more light. With this driwan eyes look very different depending on the time of day and weather because the bare eyes are black but the sap has a glossy tan colour.
