Aliviel Ruins Settlement in Trymis | World Anvil

Aliviel Ruins

I refuse to keep living in this pigsty of a town, Joran. It wasn't worth anything when it was built, much less now that most of the actual town is actually gone.
— Meredin Vinai, Wife to Joran Vinai. Recorded shortly before she left him.
Aliviel was once a small outpost farming community. It was built after the victory at Melmer field, perhaps intended as a military outpost, perhaps as a key component to the supply line, or perhaps even as a symbolic gesture to proclaim the recent decisive victory. It was, predictably soon overrun by an invasion 46 years after its original founding. It has since then fallen into ruin, though the site has recently been repurposed as a military base. While some have attempted to rekindle civilian life in Aliviel, so far the threat of turned raids and a disconnect from the civilisation of the empire has kept such entrepreneurs at bay. The only "shops" in town are those dedicated to providing to soldiers and their families stationed there.

Defences

Other than the walls, towers, and men, Aliviel is stocked with a single trebuchet on the just beyond the gate, as well as one ballista on each tower. The ballistas are spellforged to prevent the natural regeneration of storming Turned, while the trebuchet generally catapults rocks of 90 kg into the attacking force. In addition, Aliviel has three defensive mages, one abjurist and two evokers, which are capable of strengthening the fortifications and directly attack the hoardes.

Infrastructure

The current infrastructure of Aliviel is basic and highly minimal. The old walls have been renovated with towers and a pallisade of wood, while the newer more extended walls have been left to ruin. As the currently active area of Aliviel is only composed of 6 or so buildings, there are no separate streets or alleyways, almost everything is built around the old well square. There is a single gate facing southeast with the roads leading north and south being mere paths of frequently travelled packed dirt.
The only church in aliviel is the hilltop chapel, the largest building in town, slightly outmatching the Nameless Inn. While under the jurisdiction of the Principality of Health due to them being the most numerous priests there, it also acts as a place of worship for the soldiers as well as the quarters for representatives of the principalities of steel, assignment, and others which frequent the outpost.
