Aether Eels

Basic Information

Anatomy

Aether Eels are huge flying eels, though calling them flying is inaccurate as all things fly in the Realm of Air. Measuring at up to forty meters long, or at least the longest on record, these creatures have a long snake like body that is somewhat oval in shape. Their heads, which have little to no transition from body to head, are a massive set of jaws, in fact two jaws. Aether Eels have an outer and inner set of jaws that each are movable independant of each other. The outer jaw are massive with nearly meter long teeth that can bite with the force to shatter rocks. They use their sharpened wide teeth like a butchers kinfe, cleaving flesh of of their prey in one big bite. However as their outer jaws open to twice the size of their normal body height, their bites are too big to swallow as is. This is where the inner jaws come into play. They are responsible for chewing and shredding the food. Unlike most jaws these can move back and forth as well as up and down. This allows for better shredding of the meat they eat most. Unlike most animals with teeth like this they also have a set of molars great for grinding leafy mater allowing the eel in times of need to eat what ever it can gets its mouth on.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The Eels excrete large pellets of feces. This is their most useful byproduct. The left over digestive enzyme in the fecal matter can be extracted and combined for a potent healing potion. There are those that hunt the beast for the meat which is considered a delicacy.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Aether Eels have six eyes located on both top and bottom of their outer jaws, three on each side. The middle eye on both sides is the most developed and is primary vision detection. The side eyes are mostly for movement detection.
