Silent Stone
Silent Stone, formerly the Tryperian city of Rhenaedium, is the largest city in the Veriean Territory of Kohst. It was captured by the Verians in the siege of Rhenaedium in 4477 when General Haldok abandoned his post.
The Verians called it Silent Stone because of the utter silence they found upon entering the city, as the despondent Tryperians are said to have committed mass suicide.
Demographics
The population of Silent Stone is entirely Verian.
Government
Silent Stone is ruled by a duel chiefdom in the hereditary line of the two Verian warlords who first conquered the city.
Defences
Most of the old walls and towers of Tryperian build still exist around the edges of the city proper. What damage the Verians managed to do they patched up with simple wood and mud brick repairs, but the walls are beginning to fall into disrepair without the knowledge of Tryperian masonry.
Industry & Trade
The Verians of Silent Stone are largly agrairian as their woodland cousins are, planting small subsistence fields in open and usable patches of ground, mostly outside the city walls, as the former Tryperian farmers did.
Silent Stone has become an important hub for trading and moots among the tribes of Kohst's southern reaches.
Infrastructure
The infrastructure of Silent Stone is in fact a series of smaller tribal communities that have taken residence within the pre-existing framework of the Tryperian construction. As such they utilize what simple mechanisms of the Tryperian infrastructure that they can, such as roads, forges, wells, and housing, while ultimately subsisting in their own tribal fashion.
History
Rhenaedium was a large settlement on Tryperia's northern outskirts. Trading mostly on timber and quarry stone Rhenaedium became exceptionally prosperous for its relatively secluded location until a massive warband of six-thousand Khostite warriors led by an alliance of two warlord chiefs besieged the city.
It looked as though the defense of the city would be a simple task for General Haldok and his Gargoyle Legion until he abandoned the city and marched his men south in an act of open rebellion. Without its defenders the city fell easily, and the citizenry committed mass suicide as the barbarian army entered the walls. Witnessing the soundless black towers of Rhenaedium the Verian conquerors named their new city "Silent Stone."
Architecture
The architecture is typical, albeit poorly maintained, Tryperian construction of tall and imposing, gothic, black stone edifices.
