Flux

Flux

Flux was born into a nomadic clan of changelings. They had a loving family with 2 siblings. About two years ago, their clan was attacked by Mind Flayers. What happened that day is a blur to Flux. They presume that their family is dead, killed in the fight. As a young, healthy person, Flux was one of the ones chosen for the process of ceremorphosis.   All they remember is being transported a distance and then waking up tied to a bed as a Mind Flayer approached them with a tadpole. Then darkness. They woke up some time later in a room with a dead Mind Flayer, and new, terrifying powers. In their hand was a small metal idol that gave off a strong sense of unease, and a matching black mark on her hand. As they shifted shapes to get rid of it, they realized that the mark was visible in any form. They left the room in the guise of the dead Mind Flayer and escaped without seeing any one else.   They quickly realized that they were near the city of Waterdeep. They traveled there and soon took up a life of petty crime, stealing the things they needed to survive. They found that their skills of shapechanging, in addition to their new magical abilities made it fairly easy to get what they needed, plus some. Under the persona of Quill, they soon started to find other unfortunate people that couldn't take for themselves, especially children, and provided for them as well.   While Flux was determined to not see their new powers as a curse, the small idol they recieved weighed heavily on their mind. Sleeping near it gave them terrible nightmares of a dark, twisted place. They tried to get rid of the idol. They threw it in the gutter, slipped it in strangers pockets, and tossed it into the ocean, but they would always wake up with it back in their hand.   Recently, Flux had a dream, fueled by the idol, of Mind Flayers closing in on their location as they slept. With a sense of foreboding that this was a premonition, they decided to make more of an effort to rid themselves of this idol. Believing that maybe returning it to the underdark would free them, they are making their way to Deep Maw, with the hope of throwing it down into the chasm.

Balhannoth

How did I end up staring down a creature like this?   I don't even know what that was. Mostly it was a feeling. Dread, in a particular area. Arli seemed to know it, or know of it anyways. I guess it didn't help because it took her. I can only assume she's dead.   Equally heartbreaking, the monster showed me Cas. They were so small and helpless, how can they have survived? I miss them. And everyone else. I really try to not think about them most of the time. Cas looked so real. Like if I could just go touch them, they'd really be there.   K and I still managed to walk away. We found what must be the things Nele sent us for.   We found our way out and walked right into a war. If you ask me, this isn't our fight. Let's get out of here.

The Shadowrealm

We set off into the darkness. Arli seemed uneasy about the dark, but it wasn't really that scary. She could hear creatures soon. I tried reaching out with my mind to them, and I could sense them! Lots of little scared creatures just on the periphery of what my mind could reach. I pressed deeper into one of their minds and saw a figure. Dark and tall and scary.   I don't know why we just walked into that very ominous ring of pillars, but we went right for it. Big creepy things showed up. Arli said they were blights later, whatever that is. Vine people dead, we ran away.   On my watch, I swear I saw a ghost. Then, we walked right into a room with lots of them! They all seemed to be looking at this one really big ghost.   Finally, we walked into a room that seemed like it must be the base of the tower. I felt so sure that the scrolls were up the stairs. It was definitely that way. It had to be.   There was a scary figure in one of the rooms, but the draw to go upstairs was so strong we just left it.   Then the big room. Just fucking full of gold. So. much. gold. And it was all fake. Arli seemed to sense something was up. She yelled- Balanoth!
