Jascara

Home of the Trolls

Demographics

The majority of those who live in Jascara are of the Troll species, who are natives to Mexico. Goblins, native to the Caribbean, are also common in the city. There is a large Human population as well, though Humans are less common here.

History

c. 1200s C.E.

Originally founded by the Aztecs in the 13th Century, Jascara was home to a large population of Trolls who lived peacefully with the Human Aztecs of the time. The land it was built on was thought to be sacred by the Trolls, who erected a large temple in the cente of their settlement. As word of this religious monument spread, more and more people journeyed to see and live on the holy land, and more and more buildings were established around the temple.   It grew to be known as a good settlement to gather fish from, but was still better known as the heart of the Aztec Troll's religion, with a number of other religious buildings added to the then-small town.

c. 1519-1521 C.E.

During the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, the city-state that Jascara had grown to become was destroyed. The residents of Jascara had been unwilling to give their land up to the invaders and had stayed to fight. Though they were a formidable warrior tribe, the Jascarans were taken by surprise as they were ambushed from both sea and land. Many of the outlying buildings were burnt down and destroyed by the Spanish armies, but the Jascarans held until the smallpox epidemic in late 1520.   Over 2 thirds of the population of Jascara died during the epidemic, either from smallpox itself or from the attack the invaders launched on the city during this time. Due to the destruction of many of the city's buildings, the Spanish established Jascara as a small military outpost and did not bother to rebuild.

c. 1547 C.E.

Reinforcements were called away from Jascara in order to help in the conquest of Chiapas. This left the outpost depleted and vulnerable for the Trolls to attempt to reclaim their land. The Jascarans who had survived and fled their home in the previous decades chose to travel across Mexico and gather as many Trolls as they could in order to return to their homeland.   The attack was successful and Jascara was once again home to the Trolls. Rebuilding commenced on the city, starting with defences.

c.1548 C.E.

The Spanish attempted to retake Jascara, but were defeated by the far stronger forces of the Trolls.

c. 1600 C.E.

The Trolls completed the rebuilding of their home and added many more houses as the population of Jascara increased greatly, with Aztec Humans and a handful of Goblins who fled to the city for refuge.

Now

Jascara is a famous capital city, well-known for its culture and art, as well as the Aztec ruins which sit on its doorstep.

Tourism

Aside from the coast, Jascara boasts many different ruins both within the city walls and a short journey away. This is a major attraction to tourists and archaeologists. The art available throughout Jascara is also a key attraction, with many museums and galleries in the city, as well as many art stores and artists available for reasonable prices. For the high-end crowd, there are a number of expensive art shows and unique pieces waiting to be sold.

Architecture

Most buildings and artwork in the city are still reminiscent of the Aztec style in which Jascara was first built, usually made from plain stone with bright blue or gold accents.
