The River Lirin

The River Lirin is a river running through the Southern Elven Territories as well as Verdegar. It is widely used for irrigation in both countries, and terminates at Lake Lirin in the north of Verdegar.   History   The Lirin has been used for irrigation since the beginning of recorded history, though some reports suggest that it didn't always split in two near the sea. 80% of non-Fey inhabitants of Verdegar live within 2 miles of it.   During the Litherian Invasion of Verdegar, the Lirin was fortified, in the hopes of diverting the Litherian forces through Forge's Eye or Krin'garr should they succeed in taking Southwood. Most of these fortifications have been dismantled, though some have been destroyed by the Fey or taken over by goblin tribes.   The Lirin has flooded twice in recent memory: Once naturally, during the Second Arcane War, causing a famine and contributing significantly to the Great Schism, and once deliberately caused by the Fey to repel a foolish goblin tribe.   To prevent such incidents in future, the building of a dam on the border has been suggested. Both the fey and the elves object to this, however, both on ecological and political grounds, and the Everian Council seems unlikely to go ahead with the plan.
