Keravia (ke-RAVE-ee-a)

"I'm telling ya, there were hundreds - thousands! Me and me men 'ad to fight 'em off with two cannons and a cat-o'-nine-tails!"
  • Nimrod Clattershot, recounting his supposed shipwreck in Keravia
  • Scholars and sailors in Tilendrel have little in common - but one thing they do is the myth of Keravia. A fabled continent situated far south of Tilen, Keravia is theorised to be the 'far land' that Irgond, now goddess of the sea, came from to join the Seventy-Seven.   Origin   The legend of the Seventy-Seven and their battle with the Old Gods, though mangled by time and translation, is still widely accepted as fact by the scholars and religious leaders of Tilendrel. Its penultimate verse, which describes the assembly of the Seventy-Seven, contains the lines: 'A stranger came, with helmet horned // Had sailed far, yet her loyalty swore' in reference to Irgond, one of the few survivors who ascended into godhood. The place she sailed from, while originally assumed to be some land nearby but as yet undiscovered, has become a hotly debated topic since the entire continent of Tilen was mapped. Some suspect it to be Moradin Island, though the locals claim never to have had female warriors or horned helmets. Others believe that 'sailed' is a mistranslation of 'travelled' by the seafaring people of what is now Southsea.   A small group, however, believes that Irgond did indeed come from an undiscovered continent, pointing to the fact that the final battle with the Old Gods took place near the south coast, and sailing there from Moradin Island or any other known land mass would have been wildly impractical. Initially dubbed 'Irgondia' after its only known inhabitant, the theorised continent became widely known as Keravia after a famous sailor spread his story of visiting there, in which he supposedly met a native named Kerav. A number of other stories regarding the continent have spread throughout sailor's circles, some from those still living, though none have been established as credible.   Reported Sightings
    • Jonas Balkar, 1215 - The first to claim to have seen the continent, Balkar is notable for his story giving the continent its current name.
    • Pirus Filkaya, 1256 - A wizard and friend of Balkar's, Pirus supposedly scryed a person named Kerav, seeing a man of unfamiliar ethnicity and an area he was never able to identify.
    • Nimrod Clattershot, 1463 - Captain of an Everian supply ship during the First Arcane War, Clattershot claimed to have been blown off course after an attack by a Litherian ship with a druid on board and forced to put ashore on an unfamiliar land, where his men had to fight off locals with strange weapons. Clattershot is famed for his drunkenness and exaggeration, however, and few cartographers believe his ship could have blown far enough off course to reach the continent's supposed location.
    • Linda Perrik, 1894 - The sole survivor of a shipwreck in Elven territory, Perrik refused to answer any questions about the journey and lived in solitude for the rest of her life, though old creditors of hers eventually found her dead in her cottage with semi-comprehensible writings that included mention of 'pale-skinned butchers' and 'horned heads'.
    • Various Darhemians, unknown-2137 - Multiple soldiers of the 58th 'Reapers' contingent reported seeing writings in the Darhemian capital that described plans to invade an unfamiliar area south of Tilen, though they were destroyed before any scholarly analysis could be done on them in accordance with the Western Alliance's 'scorched earth' policy.
    • The crew of the Impenetrable, 2245 - The crew of the Impenetrable, also notable for circumnavigating the world, claimed to have seen several large landmasses along their journey, including at least one with humans on it, though the ship's jealous captain ensured no maps were made so that his record would stand unchallenged.
    • Mika Nethrapatana, 2642 - A psion'ic native of Moradin Island, Nethrapatana claimed to have received a vision of a 'new world', and assembled a small group of sailors to go in search of it. Her ship has not yet returned.
