Salicia is a province in eastern Thruun bordering the dwarven capital of
Kol-Embor. The barony boasts some of the best sailors and navigators in Thruun.
History
Salicia has been locked in a cold war with the province of
Taldain to the northwest for as long as anyone can recall. The two baronies have competed to colonize the many islands of the Thruun sea for monetary gain. for generations, this rivalry was interceded by the
Dragonbane Dynasty until its recent fall marking the beginning of the Age of Prophecy. Today, the two nations are on the cusp of open war on the high seas. As fleets amass around the island of
Fenwall, both desire to seize the upper hand while neither wants to strike first.
Geography
Economy
Salicia is a naval superpower with fleets of ships across the oceans of Thruun thanks to the industrious
Salicia Trading Company. Salician culture dictates that young men and women looking to leave the nest of home are expected to enlist on a crew and travel the world for the first few years of their adult lives. While transportation and naval engineering are among the province's main exports, a massive influx in coin has resulted from the crown's recent interest in colonization. For the last two hundred years, Salicia has been sending envoys to the many islands of the Thruun sea to subvert local authority and slowly bring the lands under the crown's control. Using the profit from its territories, Salicia has propelled itself into a technological renaissance. While art has always been a cornerstone of Salician culture, many within the barony have taken up the study of sciences like alchemy, magic, mathematics, and shipwrighting.
Government
The people of Salicia idolize their royalty. They venerate and mimic trends set by their feudal lords to a fault. The cultural belief in fate and fortune is accompanied by the expectation that the royal family can change multiple times in a generation. Salicians believe (however inaccurate) that becoming a noble is a product of the winds of fate, and the opportunity could be anyone's one day, and someone else's the next. Currently, the seat of the barony is occupied by the matriarch of the
Salicia Trading Company Baroness Quinnett of House Marquis.
