Saint Vakama

Vakama was destined from birth to be an instrument of war and destruction. Born in the Age of Chaos to a powerful warlord, Vakama was cursed, like his father and his father's father, with the blood of demons. He was groomed at a young age to command armies and wield any weapon to devastating effect. Yet with every passing day, something felt wrong, clawing at the back of his mind, yet still he followed his father's orders.   Vakama's whole world was rocked to its core when he faced his greatest foe on the field of battle, Saint Eyldorei. She summoned her Torchbearers to protect a defenseless city under threat of siege from Vakama's forces of hellnights bound to his service. He'd heard the legends. Eyldorei was ruthless, dispensing justice with blade and holy fire. It was said she could repel the legions of hell with a handful of farmers. This would be Vakama's ultimate test.   As luck would have it, the two met on the field of battle as their armies clashed around them. The two fought fiercely for days. Though both warriors were evenly matched, Eyldorei seized the upper hand and knocked Vakama to the ground. He gazed up at her in awe as she raised her sword high to strike the killing blow. He knew he was finished. His attention shifted to the battle raging around him. As he watched, as if time had been slowed, the mass death and destruction that he had caused, he could feel a wave of regret crash into him, cutting deeper than any blade. He knew this is the end he deserved, so he closed his eyes and waited for the final strike, but none came. He opened his eyes to Eyldorei's weapon as his feet and her hand outstretched.   Upon witnessing this act of mercy and compassion, all of his emotion came pouring out as he took the paladin's hand. All at once, the fighting stopped. A light of blinding radiance emanated from Vakama's body and surrounded the battlefield in a holy energy. The legions of hellnights were freed of their servitude and wounds began to heal across the field. Legend holds that thousands of slain soldiers were brought back from death. In that moment, the god Avon rose Vakama to sainthood for giving his life to heal the damage he had caused.
