In Eyldorei's name I take the oath

For I am the light in the darkness

To bear this torch is to bear the burden of battle

To protect the innocent and bring justice to the wicked

I accept this burden, unending

To fight evil to my last breath

The Torchbearer's oath

Eyldorei (Eel-door-ray) is a relatively old saint who lived during the Age of Chaos. Born to a poor family in some no name village, she taught herself to fight to defend her family from bandits and thieves. She eventually raised a militia of peasants to fight back against hoards of enemies threatening their home.
After establishing herself as a great warrior, she formed an order of knights known as the Torchbearers, who's sole purpose was to seek out and destroy evil, leaving justice and hope in their wake.
Her final trial came in the form of a demon invasion when the evil Agathax rended open a portal between Thruun and hell, unleashing terrors from the great beyond into the world. Eyldorei and her Torchbearers fought valiantly against the threat, containing the demons with magic barriers. They fought for a hundred days and nights untill she finally slew Agathax and routed the demons back to their awful plane. During the battle Eyldorei was mortality wounded. Legend holds that she died repelling the demons, and that she finally fell at the threshold of the portal, sealing it permanently upon her death. An immaculate statue of her was left behind as she was granted sainthood by the god Korrentyn before her follower's eyes.
