The Citadel of Blinding

The Citadel of Blinding, also referred to as the Blind Asylum, is a massive fortress-prison built explicitly to contain the most powerful and depraved wizards in the world. Originally built by the Black Sun Empire in ancient times it now stands as a symbol of punishment and justice and holds criminals from all across the globe.   The methods of punishing wizards has varied over the history of the various nations. A powerful wizard cannot simply be held in containment by barriers of stone and iron like a normal man. Even one without the words to mold earth can decipher the words of power needed to do so if they dedicate enough time and energy to the work. This has made it basically impossible to contain mages through conventional means. For this reason mages who have gone rogue were most commonly either executed or outright enslaved by other wizards who have read their true names so as to keep them in line.   Naturally having one, or even several, mages wield multiple true names is not a viable way of subjugating criminals. It puts too much power in the hands of the already quite powerful and opens the door for misuse of that incredible power.   And so the Citadel of Blinding was built. It is a truly massive structure formed purely by magical means. This, as a result, leaves the walls of the citadel impervious to being manipulated by magic due to the “The Ink is Dry” law of magic. This does not mean the walls are impervious to being destroyed by blasting spells however. It only means they cannot be transformed through the magic of another wizard.   What prevents wizards from casting spells at the walls are special runes engraved in the astral space along the walls themselves. Each rune holds a special spell that shines an impossibly bright light through astral space that will burn any who gaze upon it with their third eye. One cannot cast spells without opening their third eye and as such any who attempt to use magic while confined in one of these rooms will suffer great pain for their attempt.   Many still do make the attempt however. Constant exposure to the blinding pain of the runes has been observed to have a psychological effect. It damages the mind and slowly drives the criminals imprisoned within the blinding cells insane.
