Order of the Daughters of Maranth

When Gae Maranth defeated Argiel'zine the land was still plagued by undead.   The Daughters of Maranth was a unit in Maranth's forces composed of female scouts, woodswomen, and trackers. After the wars, they organized themselves into the Order of the Daughters of Maranth, and expanded into a full on undead-hunting organization.   The Daughters often work closely with Tol Maran and are widely respected across the nation, even if they are sometimes over-zealous in their task.   While the Daughters themselves are a female exclusive organization, they control a subordinate organization called "The Daughter's Pillars", or "The Pillars" for short. This group consists of Men who serve under the Daughters, as well as women who hope to someday be Daughters. The distinction between the two organizations is nearly invisible to outsiders, and generally people refer to even men in the Pillars as "a Daughter".   Full daughters refer to themselves and female pillars as "Sister" or "Brother", but pillars always refer to full daughters as "Daughter", or their formal title.

Structure

The Daughters are organized into Cells. In most smaller cells, a single true Daughter will lead, and any who work with her for an extended period are inducted into the Pillars (or Pillars are assigned to her by High Command). Most of these Cells are either a single Daughter or a small party of mixed skills. In general these small cells roam the countryside from village to village looking for reports of trouble to investigate, and operating off any reward the villages can muster, sometimes enhanced by a stipend from High Command.   Sometimes cells combine or grow larger, usually when a Daughter acquires some sort of defensible position. The most common scenario for this is a local noble providing a watch tower or small keep to the Daughter, sometimes with funding, in exchange for their residency and work in keeping the area safe. Sometimes these keeps or forces can be enormous, such as Colden Keep in the far north - which defends creatures that may emerge from Colden Woods, the Ruhks, and the various nearby mountain ranges.   For the most part cells operate independently. If High Command learns of a threat that is not being dealt with, it will attempt to get a message to any nearby Daughters, but often by the time a message reaches them it will be too late. Their best offense is simply keeping Daughter's spread out and covering as much ground as possible. Daughters ask those they work with and protect to send word of their deeds back to High Command, which is used to evaluate when Daughter's are to be promoted, assigned Pillars, or given a stipend.   High Command itself is made up of the most senior members of the Order. Most are beyond their adventuring years, though some younger officers do remain to assist with training and defending the keep itself.

Hierarchy

  • Eldest - The highest ranking Daughter is the Eldest, and she is in charge of all major decisions, though she takes advice from other officers and senior Daughters.
  • Captain - Captains lead companies of soldiers when armies are needed.
  • Lieutenant - A Lieutenant serves as a subordinate to a Captain, and replacement should a Captain be unavailable or dead.
  • Sister - Any other member is a Sister. Sisters can be assigned as soldiers, lone travelers, leaders of a cell, or members of a cell as needed and as their skills require.
Most support functions are filled by Pillars so there are no other formal ranks.
