Sargot's Curse

"We've received reports from clerics and healers in the city, saying that people have been having nightmares or that pale patches on their skin have appeared. They attempted to treat the patches, but nothing has worked. While this is happening I've been investigating ritualistic murders. Some of my men have also said they've seen small entities skirting around alleys at night. I am certain that these are all connected, I am requesting permission to assemble a team specifically to continue this investigation inside and outside of the city."
- Agent Boris to Trade Duke Ompus
Months after the siege of Shinnaric, Bridge Ford was assaulted by a mysterious disease. During this period there was an influx of refugees, first from the outcasts from the Great Divide and again after the siege of Shinnaric. Losing their major port capitol, The Trade Lands became disconnected from the world. An economic depression hit the kingdom as their finely tuned industries stopped in their tracks. Bridge Ford was in troubling times and the people reflected it. The most of the wealthy houses managed to weather the storm, but the working classes spiraled into despair. With this despair something manifested and pulled entities from another realm into existence.   Once discovered that something was wrong, the Bridge Ford Internal Defense League authorized the military to enforce curfews. Murders still persisted and were discovered well after the culprits were gone. The victims displayed in a manner that appeared ritualistic. Certain organs removed, sigils written in blood, and offerings left behind were all investigators could work with. As the murders continued the city's atmosphere became eerie, a sense of dread even during the day.   Bridge Fordians began experiencing nightmares, usually about demonic entities torturing them as the city burns. Over time some began growing patches that were pale and hairy. Fatigue and paranoia became a common symptom. Soon carriers would be bed ridden as the patches grew larger, weighing down them down. At the peak of the illness, blood would begin seeping from the victims skin. From that point the victim would only have moments before passing.   All seemed hopeless and then the Demon Incursion manifested. Those within the late stages erupted as entities burst from them. This led to entire sections of the city being attacked. The city's soldiers battled the monsters throughout the night and by morning the demons secured pockets of free reign. In just a couple days a thousand or more people lost their lives. After that day there have been no new reports of those harboring the curse.

Transmission & Vectors

The curse is manifested by the deeds of a demonic death cult. Throughout the city rituals were performed on random victims. These rituals released a cloud of corruption that grew larger with every evil act within the city.    The corruption assaults individuals at every moment, those that lacked willpower became infected. It cannot be passed from person to person.

Symptoms

Documented sources have researched and are believed to manifest in a specific order.
  • Nightmares first indicate that the infection has started.
  • 3-5 Days: patches to begin to form on the skin, turning the skin pale with increased hair.
  • 6-10 Days: The patches increase in size. Making it harder for the carrier to move, increasing fatigue.
  • 11-15 Days: The victim becomes mentally unstable, showing signs of increasing paranoia.
  • 16+ Days: The victim's patches cover most of the body, rendering them unable to move. At this point, blood will begin to weep from the skin leading to death. This is the point of complete manifestation, allowing entities to burst from the body.

Treatment

There were manner attempts to cure the curse, but to no avail. Divine and medical treatments could only slow or comfort the victims.
