King's Scouts

Within the Kingdom of Varden, children are raised by their parents with only a little intervention. Before a child is recognized as a "free" citizen, they must complete mandatory vocation rotations. The 3 branches include Military, Engineer, and Civil, each child is required to learn all 3 before selecting a specialization which they will work in, unless a branch is needing more. Each vocation last 1 year to complete, unless denied. The Scout will need to retake the vocation. Retaking a vocation is a breach in diligence and brings shame* to the family. During this time they are referred to as Honor Scouts, given a title and badge the signifies this important time.   Military vocation is a series of skill training. Scouts will be learning basic lessons which military personal conduct daily, such would include: drilling exercises, trench fortification, and simple weapon training. After being taught the basics, the scouts are sent to a camps near goblin territory. From there they are considered conscripts given orders by the camps commanders. They serve at the camps along side veteran companies, these companies receive extra civil rations to help instruct a new generation in warfare. During the last month, the scouts will partake in an incursion into the wilderness. Cowardice is considered a breach in bravery and brings shame* to the family.. A ceremony is held for the Scouts as they are rewarded their military pin.   Engineer vocation teaches scouts the importance of math and sturdy construction. Learning sessions are broken up with miniature construction projects, including: catapults, bridges, and walls. After the initial sessions, the Scouts are taught safety protocol and tool usage. In the vocations final month, Scouts are dispersed into ongoing construction projects where they will shadow and perform actions when directed. Becoming injured is considered a breach of protocol and brings shame* to the family. A ceremony is held as engineer pins are awarded to the Scouts.   Civil vocation teaches the importance of management and overlaps into the other vocations. Scouts will learn to prep supplies for troops and engineers, provide food rations to the populace, and ensure that proper documentation is in place for every action. Within the final month, Scouts will be dispersed to various warehouses, food stations, and armories where they will shadow and perform actions when directed. Failure to maintain documentation is a breach in morality and brings shame* to the family. A ceremony is held as civil pins are awarded to the Scouts.   Once a Scout acquires all 3 pins they are able to ceremonially join any of the 3 branches where they will specialize and bring honor to Varden. They are considered an adult at this time and immediately receive food rations and labor tokens.     *Shame - A breach in the societal code has been witnessed. The individual and immediate family members shall receive a cut in rations and tokens. Continued breaches will forbid the individual and immediate family from acquiring positions within the 3 fields with minimal rations and tokens. The individual and immediate family will be relocated to a redemption center where they can apologize to society through labor.
