Blistering Burrows
After The Shattering, the mage city of Malunar obtained a distant relative of the recently deceased emperor and declared subjugation over The Fair Field Union. The determined clans of the Fair Fields united and managed to hold off magical offenses. Along the western front, the halflings dug tranches and burrows as a why to protect themselves from large area blasts and strikes. It wasn't until a chemist concocted a wicked brew did the mages begin to gain ground. This brew would drain life energy from all that touched it and they poured large amounts above the burrows. The shouts and screams were sudden and quickly stopped. Few managed to run up into the trenches before collapsing. It was the stubborn assaults of the dwarves from The Great Divide that saved the halflings from total destruction.
The Blistering Burrows received its name from the lingering effects that continue to plague the region. What was once a green grassland is now a dark crusty desert. Ash emits from fissures that crack across miles of land. Poisonous vapors suffocate and dissolve any who attempt to cross it. On a hill on the western side, the clans have constructed a stone monument to dedicate to those who lost their lives during this horrendous event. Every year in the spring, clan chieftains meet and redeclare their loyalty to The Fair Field Union. Celebrations and contests are held before the monument, reminding people their combined strength and dedication and stop even the most powerful of enemies.
