Nishiki Hamamura

Nishiki Hamamura is a character in Map of the Woods. She is Akari Hamamura's human equal. Her title is The Caretaker.

Mental characteristics

Sexuality

Although Nishiki is not with anyone, she generally uses the word queer to describe herself. Her only recent partner, Becquerel Matthews, was nonbinary.

Employment

Nishiki has almost always worked in childcare. Before starting the foster house, she worked at a daycare. Nishiki also writes articles about child development and psychology.

Mental Trauma

Show spoiler
Nishiki is haunted by the death of her former partner, Becquerel Matthews, and the child they were looking after, Lucas Maris. Both died in a snow storm about 2 years ago, and Nishiki is a shell of her normal self following the event. Lucas was out playing with friends and got tossed around by the wind--he was always quite twiggy, as Nishiki put it--and Becquerel went out to bring him home. Neither returned. Nishiki knew Becquerel died when their equivalent, June, died at the house. Their bodies were not recovered until several days later.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

The need to correct her past mistakes and be a better parent motivates Nishiki. She also cares about the future of the children she cares for and is more than willing to be a support system for them.
