Emergency

Emergency Drive is a part of Joel's mind that represents in essence "emergency management". Emergency is always looking for a threat that can harm Joel and he is seemingly in the background waiting to strike anyone who may pose a threat. In holographic/physical form he is a mere look alike of Joel but the only color that shows is glowing red; like a hologram, or a light in a plastic tube with cold eyes. Most people see him as a human but more fearful being(one to be afraid of, not one that is afraid) and unknown due to him usually being on edge, especially when Emergency is in the "zone" which is basically when he is ether solving problems, theorizing like a crazy UFO nerd, or just plain old killing people with no remorse. His gaze made people nervous and unconformable and looks like he holds more power, wisdom and experience than what he might actually have. Most see him as a creature of death, others see him as an over protective protector for Joel and a very few see him as or more precisely call him the red witch of death and torment.
To the Thorocita people: emergency is a man who cares for the people by showing them how to defend their planet when unknown aliens came to destroy their race and take their land. Emergency is one of the men that Theo briefly mentioned will be back for the people of the planet.
Yeah, Christian really had to twist Emergency's arm to get him to care because is was the good thing to do and Emergency didn't want to do it because Theson was not in his sector.
