As the ruling class of many nations during the Age of Tyranny, the modern Elf is often treated with distrust and unease, especially if they be High Elf or Drow. While many do live and thrive in modern society, the stain of the past weighs heavily on them.
Fear is further fomented by the threat of Pre-Fumal kingdoms rumored to still exist in exile. The Floating City of Bau'Gloste hangs high in the air over its former earthen locale, the crater at the center of the city now known as Ringtown, and it is rumored that the old ways still hold sway there. It is also said that the remote denizens of the city use forbidden magics to plant spies in the world below.
