The Wellspring

In the realm of the Faye is a place called the Wellspring. A pool of shimmering water that shifts from blues to iridescent purples. The water glitters and glows with twinkling lights. Infused with the light of the Faye Mother many Faye come to the spring to rejuvenate themselves. the water reestablishes their connection to the world itself and thus gives them their magic. if a Faye spends too long away from the wellspring or its waters the Faye will become a mere mortal and forget how to return to the woods of the realm. they must return to drink from the waters every year when the moon is at its highest but some go almost daily as a ritual passed down from their ancestors. if a Faye is stuck in the human realm they may drink water they have stored from the spring and will just have to infuse it with moonlight to keep at bay the malaise. if a mortal were to drink the well water they may become a fay being themselves or go mad. the human must be pure and have left the earthen realm behind. if not the water will take them into madness they cannot escape. the wellspring is protected by a group of dryads who have to proceed the waters for over a millennia. behind the wellspring spans a large oak tree covered in gnarled knots and intricate patterns of bark. it's said an ancient Ent sleeps there to protect the well in its final hour. no fay in recent time has seen it awaken though some older Faye whisper of its existence. some Faye however uses the spring for more devious matters. the dark Faye or Unseelie Faye sneak into the grove to steal some of the waters and use them for dark spells to use on the mortals.
