Ivan is an ancient vampire lord he is a deva and so can use the abilities of seduction. He as a vampire lord can actually use his abilities on other vampires and creatures.

Personal history
Born during the year 25 Ivan was raised as a dutiful citizen of Rome. Being born in a noble vampire house that controlled the roman senate. He gained power and influence over time as a competent statesman earning him a place with other vampires of the night. During the burning of Rome under emperor Nero Ivan was the one who rallied together the senate and other members of the vampire aristocracy to rebel against the young emperor.
After the deposing of Nero Ivan helped other vampires figure our who would be the new emperor and also he would establish the grounds for the Camirilla. It was set up as a sort of new Triumvirate and keep all of vampire kind from coming on top. Over time this would create the different houses of vampire kind.
Ivan being the statesmen he was earned the trust of other pure bloods and establishing the Invictus a group of pure blood vampires dedicated to furthering the agenda of other pure blood vampires. After the fall of the empire Ivan moved to Romania taking up in Bucharest. In Bucharest he found his first two life long servants Leo and Eliza. The siblings proved to be more beneficial so he kept them on.
Some time later in Bucharest he would meet his future wife a member of the Tepes family names Elizabeth. He cherished her but, needed her to produce a worthy heir to take on Invictus when he died. His wife was only able to produce his daughter, Victoria.
Victoria was a bit of a set back as a woman she couldn't inherit the throne. So he would try again and again with Elizabeth but to no avail. It wasn't until later when a revolt of peasants caused the group to move once again to the British Empire. Here he would set up the basis of his global empire earning him even more of a fortune.
From here he would move once again to the colonies to establish the new Invictus stronghold in Boston. He would leave Victoria in charge over there.
Ivan showed up to take back control after hearing unwholesome reports given to him by Eliza. He would be killed after he revealed that he killed Elizabeth. He died at the hands of Victoria but, he placed his spirit in a ring that he placed on the hand of Ciel. Using this he was able to take control over the young boy and use him. During the battle of Boston he tried to enact his revenge on Victoria and friends. He was able to kill Alister and almost killed selene before she could get saved by Victoria. The ring was removed and destroyed by Chione resulting in his final death.
