Moonwolvens

The Moonwolvens (Moonwolven: Dagl) are one of the principle wolven breeds, native to the Goumine Mountains. Proud and warlike, though also one of the originators of civilisation, the Moonwolvens are split between a myriad of tribal warrior-kingdoms, each led by whichever noble can command the greatest number of warriors in the Sword-Moot. Moonwolven culture is rooted in the ever-changing predatory and allied relationships they have with their fellow Moonwolven tribes, with a formalised concept of honour that demands the utmost protectiveness of one's allies and the utmost vengeance to one's enemies.   In ancient times they were united under the Moonwolven Empire as one of the two greatest wolven powers, which was locked in a 200-year-long war with the Sunwolven Empire. Both of these empires have assaulted the Vale numerous times, and been repelled in all of them. In the centuries since the fall of their Empire, the Moonwolvens have stagnated and fallen behind the growth of their neighbours, such as the Redwolvens, and daughter-cultures such as the Northwolvens. Nonetheless, their influence in wolven trade, politics, technology and warfare is well established to this day.   The Moonwolvens are the progenitors of numerous other cultures, such as the Northwolvens, Deepwolvens and Nightwolvens.

Culture and cultural heritage

Moonwolven society is heavily stratified and hierarchical, with the view that every segment of the tribe serves a vital purpose. The tribe is an inseparable unit of loyalty, and demeaning attitudes to one's fellow tribesfolk is shameful and unpatriotic. Meanwhile, maintenance of tribal pride to other tribes is seen as crucial, and the Moonwolvens take easily to the subjugation and oppression of foreigners, even other Moonwolven tribes.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

The gender ideals and family structure of the Moonwolvens is the same as their Northwolven cousins: patriarchal, matrilineal, and matrilocal, with clearly defined male-public and female-domestic gender roles.
