Scrolltyper

A scrolltyper is a certain model of typewriter, made specifically for printing spells. Beyond the normal requirements for a typewriter, a scrolltyper needs three things. First, magical ink, like the type used in hand-crafted scrolls or spellbooks. Second, a supply of white coal, which allows a scrolltyper to infuse a scroll with magic even if a spellcaster is not present. Finally, a scrolltyper requires a spellcaster capable of casting the spell it is to print into it. The scrolltyper functions as a spell-storing item, absorbing the spell and printing it as many times as ncessary onto the page.

Significance

The invention of the scrolltyper has made mass production of scrolls quite trivial, though ink costs have not shrunk. This has been a great boon to many wizards, as they can quite easily fill their spellbooks with the great numbers of less powerful spells that are readily available. More powerful spells aren't as commonly printed, as they are more expensive and less wizards are powerful enough to add them to their spellbooks, but they are still plenty popular. Printed scrolls also see use by non-wizards, though less frequently. A printed scroll is much more likely to fail or misfire than one that is hand-crafted, meaning their use can be quite dangerous, but that doesn't stop everybody. There are plenty in the Waste who solely use scrolls to cast spells, to either impressive effect or catastrophic failure.

Rarity
Scrolltypers are not incredibly hard to come by, though they aren't especially common either. A spellcaster capable of using one well, however, is quite a bit rarer. There are plenty of weak spellcasters in the Waste, capable of casting cantrips or first level spells, but it is much harder to come across someone who can cast something like 5th level spells. Such spellcasters can make quite a bit of money printing spells, though the higher the spell level, the more likely a printed spell is to malfunction.
