Barony Co.

Barony Co. is the largest, richest company in the Waste, maybe even the world. It is the reason why the Waste is traversable at all, as it has produced the Rails, railtrains, and the pylon network, all essential aspects of Wastern transportation. Its vampiric owner, the enigmatic Rail Baron, is practically a king, due to his hold over the entirety of the Waste, a land that seems to so violently reject rule by any real governing power.

Structure

Barony Co. is owned by one man, known only as the Rail Baron. A vampire himself, the Baron uses his control over the Waste to make it even more of a haven for outcasts such as himself, who would be chased out of everywhere else. But he doesn't run his company all on his own, obviously. He has many underlings, who all work in one of the Company's 5 major branches. Each branch is devoted to maintaining or overseeing a certain aspect of the Waste that the Company controls. The Rails Branch, the Transportation Branch, the Assembly Branch, the Pylon Branch, and the Justice Branch.   The Rails Branch is in charge of maintaining, fixing, and replacing the Rails. Damage from frequent use, rust buzzards, and other things would quickly render the Rails unusable if not for the Rails Branch's efforts. Rail repairmen are frequently dispatched to the areas on the Sands more prone to damage, or just those which haven't been maintained recently, and fix the existing rails or forge new ones.   The Transportation Branch is in charge of taking care of travel in the Waste. Most of the railtrains in the Waste are owned by Barony Co., and rented out to those who pay for them. Others are manned by Barony Co. employees, and ferry paying passengers around the Waste. The Transportation Branch manages revenue gained, hires workers, and maintains damaged Barony Co. railtrains.   The Assembly Branch is in charge of assembling railtrains. The knowledge of how to assembly a navvy, the part of a railtrain that makes it actually work with the Rails, is a closely guarded secret, only known to a select few Assembly Branch engineers. Those who work in this branch are some of Barony Co.'s highest paid workers, partly an incentive to keep them quiet.   The Pylon Branch is in charge of maintaining the pylon network, and keeping ambient magic in the Waste high. They work closely with hunters, purchasing the white coal they assemble and having it shipped to pylons all over the Waste to be burnt. It also take care of hiring and paying pylon workers and guards.   Finally, there is the Justice Branch. While smaller than other branches, the Justice Branch is a favorite of the Rail Baron, and is very different from the other branches. Its focus is not on the transportation aspects of the Company, but rather on keeping the Company and its customers(pretty much all of the Waste) safe. The Waste is full of criminals, but some especially bad ones roam the Sands, raiding Barony Co. railtrains, shooting them up and stealing from them. This is certainly bad for business, as it makes travel frightening, and so the Justice Branch exists. The Justice Branch draws from Barony Co.'s coffers to put bounties on the heads of these pirates and outlaws, relying on the people of the Waste to take care of them for the Company.

Public Agenda

Publically, Barony Co. wishes to provide safe transportation to the Waste, and provide its inhabitants with safety and comfort. In reality, that isn't actually too far off the mark. The Rail Baron's goals align with his public agenda, with the added goal of obviously making copious amounts of money. However, the safety and comfort part mostly extends to the unholy creatures of the world, such as fiends, werecreatures, or intelligent undead like himself.

Assets

Barony Co. has made untold sums from its hold over the Waste's transportation. Controlling transportation essentially means that the Company controls the entire Waste, since without railtrains Wasterners wouldn't be able to cross the vast expanses of the Sands without being swallowed up before they made it half a mile. Besides money, Barony Co. has a vast fleet of railtrains, and the essential knowledge of how to craft railtrains and the Rails. This knowledge is privy only to the Company, so they have no competitors at all.
