Cloud Folk

A figure with goggles and a thick scarf over their mouth stands at the edge of a ship. They adjust the ropes tied to their torso... and jump. They dive into a cloud. They act quickly, spreading the net out. A tug on the line, and they're being pulled upwards, a hefty net with many fish in their hands.   The Cloud Folk are human, bold and brave, doing their best to survive above the harsh abyss.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

The Cloud Folk value skill above all. The whole society is ran by the Guild Consortium, and individual settlements are governed by the predominant guild in that settlement.

Gender Ideals

The Cloud Folk place little importance on gender or gender expression. Individuality is as important to them as the well-being of the whole.

Average Technological Level

Their technology is comparable to our late industrial era, with some advanced differences such as Automatons or skyships.

Common Dress Code

There's an emphasis on practicality in dress, though this is more a common mindset than etiquette.   However, it's important that one's clothing clearly shows which guild they belong to, even when wearing casual clothing. This is often achieved by wearing the guild's crest somewhere.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Cloud Folk base their culture around craft and trade. In a world where one wrong step can mean plummeting for eternity, it's important that everyone does their part and contributes to society.

History

Noone truly knows where the Cloud Folk come from. For them, it seems as if they were always on these islands.   Towns and villages formed on many islands, at first connected by only simple bridges. Then, in one of the towns, a first skyship (or rather a skyboat) was made. With that, the islands and the society could finally be connected and flourish.   Some island settlements became more focused on one type of trade, be it agriculture or tailoring. The best and most skilled workers became leaders and governed the towns, helping them grow. With the coming of skyships and connection of all islands, settlements with similar trade started cooperating, and the first guilds were created. Soon the guilds started trading and working together as well, ultimately leading to the creation of the Guild Consortium.
