The Battle of Geonosis was the first battle of the Clone Wars. It saw the first widespread use of clone troopers in battle and the use of Jedi as military leaders despite the misgivings of the Supreme Imperator. The battle resulted in a victory but at a great cost in men.

The Battle of Geonosis was the epidemy of badly planned and badly coordinated military action. The Jedi Order, despite the misgivings of the Imperator, was placed has major leadership of the armies per request of the President of the United Federation of Planets. This resulted in a massive tactical failure caused by the Jedi identity of peacekeeping. Newly appointed Jedi generals lead clones in inconspicuous columns across the open plains of the Geonisian desert. The droid armies of the Confederation, wielding superior firepower in numbers were able to fire upon dozens of exposed targets with ease, creating a massive casualty rate. Despite the eventual victory, the battle was a disaster in nearly every way. Effectively foreshadowing the nature of the entire war.
