The Deepwilders

A group of Whisperers that have banded together over a theory- that the path to paradise is sealed behind paying tribute to the occult horrors of the deep.

Structure

There is no leader of this cult, as it is merely a group of deviants.

Education

Most of the Deepwilders are formally educated in the occult, usually through apprenticeships to older Whisperers. They often turn their attention to ocean and sea occult creatures, and boast prodigious knowledge of such horrors and how to not be instantly killed by them.

Mythology & Lore

The Deepwilder cult believes that the only path to heaven is via the occult horrors that lie below. They are seen as the gatekeepers which must be paid tribute if one is to reach the 'true' paradise.

Divine Origins

Many occultists die due to summonings. But sometimes they don't. Sometimes, they get 'lucky', and live. One such Whisperer summoned a ocean creature as a desperate last measure, and when it worked, latched onto it as a foundational belief. Even though the horror was quickly lost back to the ocean, they believed that they had found the way to enlightenment. They trained their apprentices in their beliefs, and slowly but surely, the cult grew until it was officially founded.

Tenets of Faith

1. Respect the Elder Ones   2. Pay tribute to the gatekeepers   3. Ensure your path to heaven   4. Enlighten others to The Deep Path   5. Protect the practice of Whispering

Ethics

There are three levels of importance placed to the Deepwilders, listed here from most to least important:   Their faith (to the ocean horrors), their personal assurance on the path to paradise, and their duty to bring others into the cult.     In practice, most members are self-centered and only want to ensure that their eternal afterlife is a good one.

Worship

One pays respect to the Deep by offering it sacrifices, general respect, and devotion.   The primary method of worship is to let people die to ocean horrors, or even push them in the way.

Granted Divine Powers

No actual divine powers are granted for their faith- however, they are highly knowledgable in the occult, especially in the area of summoning.

Political Influence & Intrigue

Many of the members are Whisperers in the courts of kingdoms, towns, and cities, and thus they have high position and indirect influence.
