Luantimo Jungle

Primarily known as the home of the nahuatl people, the luantimo jungle sits near the eastern edge of the empire. While technically within the borders of the empire, the nahuatl people do not consider themselves to be a part of it; rather, they see the luantimo as a politically distinct region in itself. Recent attempts to integrate the nahuatl people into the empire have been met with resistance from religious groups, who insist that the jungle is sacred land and that the nahuatl must be allowed to remain separate from the empire.

Geography

The Luantimo is bordered on the northeast by the Great Chasm, though the jungle itself sits on a relatively level area.

Weather

Frequent rainfall in the area and a heat-trapping canopy of trees mean the interior of the jungle is much more humid than other regions in the same climate. As a result, travelling with more than a thin layer of clothing will almost certainly make for a miserable experience. Most guides of the jungle are quick to advise their clients that a thin, loose fitting outfit and tough travelling boots are essential to journeying into the jungle.

Fauna & Flora

The Luantimo is home to a wide variety of wildlife, from tiny tree shrews and harmless reptiles to massive predators whose long necks bring their heads near the top of the canopy. The jungle is also reputed to hold nearly every type of plant an apothecary could want, some in abundance and some so rare that one would need to hire a local guide just to locate them.

Natives

The Luantimo is the home of the numerous tribes of the Nahuatl, who see it as their duty to protect the jungle from any who would abuse its resources. This has frequently led to violent misunderstandings between akregian foragers and the nahuatl, though typically such encounters are resolved quickly if the expedition brings a guide fluent in the narive tongue.
