Summershore

Summershore is a temple city in Enaidia. It is home to the head temples of The Court of Eight religion. The city is a living community of clerics, priests, and layfolk, working together for both their own benefit and for the care and protection of the less fortunate. The Dedicate Superior of the temple is Sinlen Selniana Tamble.
While officially a city in name, Summershore’s population is closer to that of a small township. Its self-sufficient nature and religious significance greatly increase the settlement’s renown.

Geography

Summershore is located to the southeast of Sunkeep , atop cliffs overlooking Lamperi Bay. The city’s highest point is the Old Library, which sits 400 feet above sea level. The lowest point is the westernmost watchtower, with an altitude of 100 feet. Sturdy stone walls surround the city on all sides, with watchtowers posted at regular intervals. Three gates serve as entry points in the north, west, and south of the city. The center of the city is marked by a tall stone bell tower.
The city is divided into four sub-temples: the Air Temple in the east, the Water Temple in the west, the Fire Temple in the south, and the Earth temple in the north.

Sub-Temples

Air Temple

The Air Temple is located in the eastern quarter of the city, overlooking the bay. It is home to the city’s libraries and archives. Further from the cliffs are the temple’s stables, pastures, and coops. The temple is responsible for the basic education of Summershore’s residents in literacy, numeracy, and history.

Water Temple

The Water Temple sits downhill from the rest of the city in the western quarter. The loomhouses occupy the lowest part of the hill, while the infirmary and apothecary are closer to the northern quarter. The temple is responsible for the health of Summershore’s residents.

Fire Temple

The northern quarter of the city is home to the Fire Temple. The forges and glassblowing studios are strategically located to avoid the spread of fire in case of accidents, and reduce the heat concentrated in one area. The rest of the quarter is taken up by training yards and armories. The temple is responsible for the defense of Summershore.

Earth Temple

The rolling fields of the southern quarter belong to the Earth Temple. There are fewer buildings here than in the rest of the city, with most of the space given over to crops. Summershore’s kitchens can be found here, providing meals for the poor. The temple is responsible for supplying Summershore with food.

Demographics

Summershore is home to people of every age, race, and nationality. Some are permanent residents, dedicating their lives to the service of the gods, while others are in the city temporarily. Nobles may send their children to study for the priesthood, and orphans are commonly given over to the care of the temples. Adult residents of Summershore, whether priest or layperson, are addressed as “Dedicate” for having dedicated their lives to the gods.
