Khiyberyder

The Khiyberyder is a starscrapper warship that is privately owned by the Strat clan Oberatt. It was built out of a well-preserved wreck of a Novarahn Combat Cruiser by one of the Southern Island Empires to be their seafaring flagship. Shortly after it was launched, the Empire which had built it was devestated by a surprise attack from neighboring Island Empires. The Oberatt clan knew about the attack before it happened, and used the situation to take the flagship for themselves. They offered to take the original crew to safety away from the Southern Islands in exchange for the ship, and killed the members of the inexperienced crew who refused. After honoring their promise to release the crew to safety, they renamed the ship Khiyberyder, and Oberatt Rilo was named Captain of the new Oberatt flagship. Some members of the clan want to refit the scrapper to hunt the largest and most dangerous sea creatures, but others want to use it as a warship for raiding or just for defense; no significant changes have been made yet.

Propulsion

The main source of propulsion is a high-power starship engine. Additional propulsion, and maneuverability, are provided by a set of six takeoff engines mounted along either side. It also has an experimental array of starship maneuvering thrusters. All of the engines and thrusters were salvaged from the starship that also provided the hull. All of the engines are exceptionally reliable compared to most scrapper starship engines, and there are spare parts on board.

Weapons & Armament

The main weapons are a pair of turret-mounted ion/EMP cannons and a forward-facing Heavy Rail Cannon. There are also heavy plasma cannons, ballistic cannons with variable projectiles, rapid-fire plasma autocannons, and other weapons on turrets, all of which can be fire linked or independantly operated. It also carries missiles, torpedos, and sea mines.

Armor and defense

The entire ship in encased in Novarahn Combat Cruiser alloy armor, and the engine and power sections have additional layers of armor in the walls and on the components themselves. There are laser and plasma anti-missile blasters with independant sensor suites installed along the sides of the hull, and across the top deck. There are experimental anti-torpedo launchers under the water line, but they are unreliable. Unlike most starscrappers, the Khiyberyder has a working shield generator, but its power requirements limit its use.

Complement / Crew

The ship can be run effectively with a crew of only 49 Strat and around 200 'bots, but the clan usually has additional crew on board to reduce the work load. There are typically 150 to 200 Strat hunters on board, as well.
