Wisp Cat

Wisp Cats are a species of ghostly felines that live in the Forest of the Moon. They are transparent and glow either a soft blue, light gold, or purple.
They are also commonly seen as either an omen of death or a sign that a loved one who has recently passed away is watching over you.
Wisp Cats are commonly featured in Drimori myths, usually acting as the spirit of a being who has recently died. They are also depicted as gifts from divine beings, and may also be shown as a vessel for a divine to speak through.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A Wisp Cat is an ethereal quadruped. They have thin, lithe bodies and four long legs in addition to a thick tail that is the size of their body. They are very light, despite the fact that other fauna their size would be around 120lb.

Genetics and Reproduction

While Wisp Cats partner for live, they appear to be sterile. However, another Wisp Cat appears when a greater animal, such as a stag or other large being, dies. While their reproduction is truly a mystery, we can assume that they perhaps rise from the spirit of the dead.

Ecology and Habitats

Wisp Cats thrive in locations of low light. Their eyes can be easily damaged, so they prefer a dark canopy with soft lights form bioluminescent plants. Wisp Cats cannot live in areas of just water or areas that are too hot because their pelts are thick and they will either die from hypothermia or hyperthermia. Wisp Cats also rely on dense foliage to hide themselves easily and to provide distractions to move attention from them away.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Wisp Cats hunt other animals, often avifauna or rodents.
They only catch what they can eat, and sometimes they hunt for other Wisp Cats who are unable to do so.
Wisp Cats can move quickly and quietly, and often use their stealth to their advantage in an environment of still chaos.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

While some form similar to the typical Wisp Cat has been reported appearing on almost every planet, the nature of the dimly lit Forest of the Moon is where the population in its assumed entirety resides.

Average Intelligence

Wisp Cats are smart enough to avoid settlements, plan complex attacks, and avoid traps. They also seem to understand one when someone is using magic nearby, though they don't quite seem to know what magic is. Wisp Cats can also detect emotion from voice or body language, and will run when they feel threatened and will try to attack when they can't run.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Wisp Cats rely heavily on scent. They can smell small prey in a 600 meter radius.
Wisp Cats can best see at night, as their eyes are best suited for low-lighting and direct sunlight can damage their eyes. Wisp Cats use the bioluminescent nature of their prey and the glow given off by native plants to best find their prey.
These cats also have a "sixth sense" and can detect magic usage. While they might not know what magic is or what they sense is, they have been shown to be able to detect usage.
Wisp Cats have furry, cone shaped ears. The shape of their ear allows them to hear up to distances of 800 meters, and the furry protects sensitive parts of the ear from harm.
