The Stellex Stone

The Stellex Stone is a powerful sentient seeing stone and spell focus. It resides on the tower of Adger Medeis, where it is guarded both by a Sphinx and a Naga. Those who attune to the Stellex stone find it to have an abrasive personality, and a general unwillingness to be helpful. If convinced of the importance, however, the Stellex stone might cast a spell for a person.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Stellex Stone holds a consciousness in its depths. This consciousness is able to cast the Temporal Portal spell to create a time portal forward or backward in time. Casting such a spell requires that the Stone be placed on the top of its pedestal in the tower of Adger Medeis, and that the Amulet of Ajid be placed in the correct configuration in the tower. Finally, 3 mages must cast a 9th level sunlight spell into the obelisks surrounding the tower.   The Time Shift spell does not require other spells cast nearby.   The stone is able to insure the local dam doesn't fail by keeping a wall of force active that holds the dam in place.

Manufacturing process

The stone was created or discovered by the archmage and artificer Ajid, before the fall of the Alkeemian empire.

Significance

In addition to functioning as a seeing stone for scrying spells, the consciousness that resides in the stone holds the knowledge of the Temporal Portal spell required to create a portal in time. It can also be used to cast time shift, restoring the land surrounding the tower backwards or forwards in time. Finally, the stone insures that a local, ancient, and magical dam does not fail. Ensuring the dam doesn't fail is an essential part of the stone, as the dam helps maintain a planer net around the world that protects against planer travel to or from the world.
